End of the journey From beginning as freshman, to the final graduation ceremonies, the col- lege years spent at Azusa Pacific hold different memories; the climax of these experiences were senior events — a spectrum of multi-colored events. Amid the excitement of the last year of a college education, sen- iors watched the world they would soon enter. The uncertainty of the Iranian hos- tages held for over a year; the draft registration, presidential elections all added to the confusion and the maze of complicated problems facing the people in the world, but it was for- gotten for a brief time as a football team strived for an 8-2 season, and as a volleyball team proved their skill for the second year in a row. As Easter vacation ended, seniors were stricken with senioritis. Sud- denly, it was mid-April, and all the hectic events of graduation, announcements, cap and gown orders, grad school and job applications added to the worries. But what the seniors took from APC was more important than what they left. J =- — i — , Dr. Earnest Boyer Graduation Speaker I- Commencement 1981 Commencement Exercises were held on May 2, 1981, in the parking lot of Azusa Pacific College. The graduation speaker was Dr. Ernest L. Boyer. Dr. Boyer is President of the Carnegie Foun- dation for the Advancement of Teach- ing. Music was provided by the jazz band and Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Gary Bonner. The Class of 1981 had received many honors. 15 students had been named Who ' s Who Among American Colleges and Universities. 47 students received honors including Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Cum Laude and Alpha Chi. Its athletic teams had strived to excel. Many had received National Honors. Coach Hamlow was named to the NAIA Hall of Fame after receiving his 500th win in his Basketball Coaching career. It was clear that the Class of 1981 ' s achievements would not stop at Azusa Pacific but continue on to touch the lives of many others. )lm Rubstello and Brad Sago lead the procession of graduates. It is an APC tradition that the base- ball team lead the procession. 1981 graduates take time to reflect and think about their future during Convocation ceremony. It was held Satur- day, May 2.
