AWALT M SICIAN KE SI UCOMMAN PERFORMANCESM Y 'Nw 4- ' ' ' - ' I A js'r:sa ' At the California Music Educators' Annual Mu- sic and Ensemble Festival held at San Jose State on March 13 , Awalt musicians received the highest honors. Len Cook, Coordinator of Awalt High School's music program, said, We took eight groups and received six Command Perform- ance ratings, the highest bestowed at the festivalf' In the solo division the following Awalt students received Command Performancel' ratings: Marilee Mortarotti, violing Sally Cooperrider, fluteg and Linda Mortarotti, flute. Sally and Linda received the coveted award a second time when they performed in a duet. -f -H I A I ' 1 3 - L .. K ,Y . 'f hs .1 W f ' 4 , - , M, , V . . Q. Awalt's String Quartet and Woodwind Quintet also received Command Performance ratings while their Flute Trio won an Outstanding rating. These ensembles were directed by Awalt Instrumental music instructor Barry Ehrlich. In the String Quartet were: Marilee Mortarotti, violing Andy Levien, violin, Lonnie Langston, violag and Leslie Stone, cello. Lynne Rehder, Marie Jackson, and Leslie Roberts composed the flute trio. In the Woodwind Quartet were Sally Cooperrider, fluteg Jennifer Jaschob, bass- oong John Nelson, oboe, Sue Kefauver, clarinet, and Val Ligda, French Horn.
