P RTANS SLUG FOR UCCESSFUL SEASO The Spartan Junior Varsity Baseball team faces a slate of stiff competition this year. All schools in the League are tough. Coach Jerry Gosland is optimistic, however. We're looking forward to a successful year. The boys have tremendous at- titudes and all give 200'Za. Kevin Cronin, Mike Luken, Doug Clawson, Steve Chaney, and Jim DeBusk are expected to do particularly well. ROSS COU TRY PS Cross Country 1970 has been the most successful cross country season in Awalt's history. Our Varsity won the league championship and placed tive runners on the S.C.V.A.L. All league team: Dave Chamness, Larry Chamness, Rick Hart, Chris Kane, and Tom Verrette. The Varsity ended up the season as the Central Coast Section's number four team, possibly the strongest section in the country. Dave was select- ed to the All Northern California Cross Country Team. Larry and Rick were selected to the sec- ond teams, and Chris and Tom both received honorable mentions. The Junior Varsity was not to be outdone. They, like the Varsity were league champs as well as the third best Junior Varsity team in the section by the end of the season. The Freshman Team placed fourth in the league finals and placed two of itls runner on the all league freshman team. They were Joe Schumaker, and Paul Mayer. Although we didn't run a sophomore team, Neil Bouchet was selected to the All-League Sopho- more Team. as Jr aah
