VARSITY BASKETBALL HE VY O HU TLE Fielding a team small in stature but big in hustle, the Awalt Varsity Basketball squad achieved a very successful season. Although suffering a du- bious loss to not-to-strong Mountain View ball club in the first game, they came on strong the rest of the season. In an exciting rematch of a game s in which they lost earlier, our boys defeated the strong Cupertino club. The Spartans also proved to be a club to be reckoned with by such basket- ball powers at Los Altos and Freemont. The sea- son came down to game with Lynbrook for a berth in the Shaungnessy Playoffs. Awalt lost but it was the first time Awalt has had ever a chance of getting in the playoffs, Walt Mills proved to be the cog of the team, and is a sure All-League candidate. Other spark plugs include Rick Swanson, Mike Yancey, and Steve Rich.
