A - 1- Who's got the ball? FRO H-SOPH WATER POL0 KES SECON The Frosh-Soph Waterpolo Team had an outstanding sea- son, finishing second in the Santa Clara valley Athletic League. Buff Grieder, Most Valuable Player-SC.V.A.L., led the otlense with 56 goals. Other all-league such as Fitz Fitz- gerald, Glenn Yasaki, Sean Stanbury, and Kyle Samuels also contributed to the Spartans' success. Freddy Ehlers, deserving of an all-league award, yet denied, provided the team leadership. Next year should prove to be another suc- cessful year. The team will be lead by the greatly admired Keith Bauer and Craig VanHom. P RTANS FACE TROUBLED W TERS Awalt's Swimming and Diving Team started its 1971 season by meeting the Sunnyvale Jets in the Spartan pool on March 2. The league schedule for the season will pit the Awalt team against Peterson, Buchser, Homestead, and San Carlos. League finals will be held May l. Prospects for the season are not as good as they have been in past seasons. Despite a strong .lun- ior contingent spearheaded by Van Zandt, Bum- stead, Smith, and Thomas, there is only one senior competingfCurtis Folsom. As the season progresses, the Varsity squad may be bolstered by the addition of Buff Grieder and other Sopho- mores. Diving Coach Dennis Devine has high but not necessarily unrealistic hopes for his team. Coach Devine is counting on Stanbury and Richardson to secure a place in the league finals for Awalt. The Frosh-Soph team should turn in an impres- sive performance led by Collier, Kosling, and Pacheco.
