Gir1's State Last summer I spent eight days as a representative to Girlts State at the U.C. Davis campus. The purpose of the session is to acquaint the girls with the proce- dures and mechanics of our government on all levels. As a resident of Birby Hall, I was a member of Kelsey County and a citizen of Fremont. By conducting elec- tions and party rallies, as well as having lectures by illustrious speakers, Girlts State proved to be a valuable learning experience. The most rewarding of my experi- ences was the girls themselves. Six hundred strangers on Monday left Davis as dear and lasting friends. The generousity and enthusiasm of the girls made Girlls State an experience I will cherish. I am most grateful to the American Legion for selecting and sponsoring me to the I969 session of Girl's State. Boy's State Maureen O'Keefe , . J im Tyburczy Last summer I was given the opportunity to repre- sent Awalt at the California Boy's State Convention held in Sacramento. At this convention eight-hundred and fifty students from high -schools all over the state met to learn about and practice the system of govern- ment of the state of California. It was also an oppor- tunity to meet and exchange ideas with all kinds of diferent people, both students and adults. I would like to thank the American, which sponsors and runs Boys' State each year, and Walt High, for making it possible for me to share in this worthwhile and broad- ening experience.
