Kneelrng Qleft to rnghtj Srd Rnendeau Black Wrllrams Van Ness Mr Durphy Mrller W N Gordon C Reese Wardrop Second Row Cleft to rrghtb R Jones Rrchtmyer Crawford Proctor Cluxton Otto Fawcett Durphey Henschel Schnavettx Ross L Duff Edelen R Duff THE NIMROD CLUB Thrs year has been one of Avons best and the Nrmrod Club Avon s only mdependent and chartered club has 1n keeprng up wlth the rest of the school also been tops Well organized plans and their fulfill ment under the able leadershxp of the Presrdent have led to one of the club s best years Srnce 1ts foundmg rn 1929 the Nrmrod Club has been one of the most rmportant best manned and most helpful organxzatrons at Avon Thrs year was no excep non Beaver Pond as rn the past was the mam center of attractron for the Sunday mornrng work crews The streams flownng rn and out of the pond were all cleaned out and the banks enlarged to allow for clearer water and better hshmg rn the sprmg The pond was agam dramed and serned rn the fall Perhaps the most norrceable xmprovement was the dredgmg and deepemng of the pond by a hired clam shell The srlt on the upper mnddle part of the pond was removed and the gravel and drrt were deposrted ln a long peninsula, whrch stretched the wrdth of the pond The area rn the back of thrs penmsula was deep ened for fxshmg by about 15 feet Thrs penmsula wnll also keep the srlt rn the upper part of the pond from flowmg down rnto the dam area Numerous channels were dug to deepen the pond and marntam the water rn constant flow The cabm recetved a few necessary reparrs the roof on the old cabnn was patched up the prne panehng rn the newest addmon was completed A new wood stove was also added to replace the prevrous faulty and haz ardous gas stove The club thrs year was Indeed fortunate rn havmg two alumm return as masters Mr Leavitt and Mr Mendell of the class of 52 helped a great deal rn the furtherrng of club functrons Mr Leavrtt also helped to start an NRA sanctroned mile team wrthm the club Marksmen Mrller Reese Van Ness andW1ll1ams were grven a chance to show therr skrlls to outsnders as a result and the members were able to make use of the rnfle range and the trap shoot more often The club began its year under the drrectron of Drck Wrllrams as presrdent and Punch Wardrop as vrce presrdent jeff Henschel and Gary Black were treasurer and secretary, respectrvely No ,ob too large or too small defeated the club wrth nts strong leadershrp Never to be forgotten are the great support and msprra non grven to the club and the hard work put mto rt by the faculty advrsor, Mr Durphy, or the wonderful Wednesday meals served by Srd and hrs band of cool1es The club has a wide range of plans for the future Wrth a lot of support from outdoor enthusrasts, rt wrll remarn one of the most rndependent and well organ rzed clubs rn school l 1 l 4 , - I C I .L..
