Rockwell, Williams, Tracy, and Antolini. Our next meet was against Torrington High School and the ducks easily swam on to their second victory, winning by the score of 43-34. In the third meet against Hamden High School, we again splashed our way to a facile victory 45-31. The Avon medley relay team of Harrigan, Read, Bill Tracy, and Antolini set a new school record, and Bill Tracy swam his way to a new record in the hundred-yard butterfly. Avon was victorious in its next meet against Can- terbury, winning 54-32, placing first in seven events. Dick Read broke the school record in diving. After winning four consecutive meets, Avon finally went down to defeat against a powerful West- minster team in a meet that was decided in the last event. Individual winners for Avon were: Bill Tracy in the individual medley, Read and Tierney in the butterfly. The final score of the meet was very close, 45-41 in favor of Westminster. Avon started another winning streak with an easy victory over Hopkins Grammar on Dance Weekend There were three new records set as the boys were spurred on to victory by the girls Bill Tracy broke his own record in the hundred yard butterfly Antolini also broke his in the backstroke and Rockwell smash ed the hundred yard freestyle All the participants and spectators were elated over the spectacular victory In our next meet which was with a powerful Suf field team, Avon won five events and was easily in command throughout the meet, winning by a score of 46-40. Bristol High School was the team's next victim. Avon gained an early lead and ended the contest with a final score of 41-36 in our favor. In the final meet against Deerfield's J. V., Avon was defeated by the close score of 46-40. The old standbys, Bill Tracy, Dick Read and Pete Antolini were the only boys able to take a first in their respec- tive events. The other Avon swimmers collected second and third places, but were not able to over- come the powerful Deerfield squad. After the culmination of the regular season, the Avonians traveled to Yale University - there to take part in the N.A.I.C.C. league competition. They met there a formidable array of the best swimmers from Cheshire, Sufiield, Hopkins Grammar, Canterbury, and Westminster. Avon, however, broke all expectations as she battled to a well esteemed second place. Bill Tracy was certainly the top duck as he muscled his way into the first place medals Pete Antolini up held his end as he took a first place in the backstroke The Messers Tierney Rockwell Chace Marks and Phillips provided the power behind the throne as they all placed Read and Kellam performed exceptionally well in the diving department and helped to provide an ample margin over the vanquished . , - ' v x a v 1 , ' 9 was 4 .
