Connecticut's best college cross-country runners, set the record on Avon's course. The scores in this meet were: Trinity College, twenty-six, Avon, twenty-nine. In looking over the year, it is easy to see the great strides cross-country has taken. Although it was felt last year that a good course had been found, this year an even better one was established. The new course is two and six tenths miles long and includes nearly every type of challenge that faces a cross- country enthusiast. Coach Elinget belives that the varied and attractive course is one of the finest in New England, containing extensive wooded trails, as well as easy hills, along quaint streams and through open fields. The footing, with the exception of a few sandy places, is all on springy forest bed, which is the best possible for any runner. The outlook for next year's team is very good. With the exception of Kim Wilson, this year's Cap- tain, and two other Seniors, Taylor and Piel, who will graduate this spring, all of the runners will re- turn next year, including Barr, Emrich, Garces, Gross- man, Marvin, Powers, Proctor, Weinstein, and next year's Captain, Olson. Already meets are being planned with the freshmen teams of Cornell and Yale, Trinity College and the Loomis School, Hall High School and the Glastonbury High School. Many schools are interested in getting meets with the Avon team, and Coach Efinger has already received letters asking for meets. Keeping the interest that has been engendered on the outside in mind, we can all be sure that here at Avon, a country school, such a country sport has great possibilities and will achieve even greater success in years to come.
