Seated Left to Right V Viering Dew Bokhof N Tracy McBride Ferrier Porter Kellam Phelps Ricltards Mott Welch Pettmgill W Tracy Mr Tongue Mr Carney Standing Stillgebauer Wardrop Rosenthal Marsh Beall McShane Davis Mitchell Daniel Hampton Howd G Viering Seidel Bradley Gans Dooley Strouch Cunningham Coach Cochrane VARSITY FOOTBALL RECORD Avon Avon Avon Avon This year the Avon football team in a season abbreviated by the Asiatic Flu had a good record The gridmen were sparked by the backfield of Pettingill Welch Nate Tracy and Bill Tracy The burly bruising fullback Bill Tracy could usually be given the ball when a few yards were needed Swivel Hips Welch was a constant breakaway threat as was his running mate at the other halfback position little Nate Tracy and the whole team was held together by the excellent play of quarterback Al Pettmgill whose good Judgment in calling plays and accurate passing could be relied upon Although there were several stars in the line they played as a team McBride and Mott played the ends Hopkins Kingswood Monson Williston It was amazmg the way McBride was always able to catch the pass and no one hustled and played harder Ferrier and Rickards were the tackles and just to look at those two husky boys would give the other team the ptters Stu Phelps and judge Porter played very well especially against top flight teams and with Luke Kellam the star center welded the middle of the line into a steel wall Supporting a good starting team were several outstanding substitutes whose ef forts contributed greatly to the team s success among those were Dick Bokhof Terry Bradley Stanley Strouch Mike Cunningham and Marty Mitchell Avon started the season in high fashion winning ' ' ' ' ' ' .
