Front row left to r1t,ht Erskme J Proctor Stxllpebauer Donnelly Mr Sharp Brown L Stavers Grossman Second rov left to rxghr Holt Wtlson Lapxdus Lash Davenport Thompson Davxs D Gard ner Hathaway THE DINING ROOM COMMITTEE Nerther ra1n nor sleet nor dark of early mormng can stay these staunch messengers from the swtft com pletlon of their appomted rounds They are sixteen boys who contrrbute many hours of therr valuable trme toward the care and feedrng of Avon s students The Commrttee IS dxvrded mto three parts The first and best known part rs the drnmg room section Brown L Davenport Donnelly Stavers D Davis Holt and Hathaway It rs the job of these boys to take attendance rn the refectory Also for the last three years rt has been the duty of the Drnmg Room Com mlttee to take for the use of the Busmess Ofhce, an accurate count of boys and faculty attendlng each and every meal They have a remarkable record, ln rakmg meal counts for two consecutrve years they have not mrssed a meal The Co chanrman m charge of the Dnnmg Room Committee who has worked conscrentxously for the commrttee for three years, IS joe Thompson It rs not only joe s duty to supervrse the proper functxomng of the attendance takers but he must also dellver cornmu nrcatrons from the admmlstratrve departments to both faculty and students ln the refectory da1ly at noon The second and not so well known branch IS that of the mirmary section Stephen Lash IS the Co chart man of this slde of the committee Steve IS asslsted by Lapndus, Grossman, Plepla Proctor Strllgebauer and Gardner It ns the duty of these gentlemen to car ry food to the rnirmary every mornmg noon and r1on to one of the less consptcuous but most helpful branches of our Comrnunlty Servlce The thrrd and least known part of the Dmlng Room Commzttee ts made up of only two boys These commendable characters are john Erskxne and Krm vUllSOD It rs therr duty to set up all faculty coffees rn the balcony of the refectory Sunday Monday Tuesday Thursday, and Fnday evemngs after d1nner Mr Sharp the faculty advxsor of the Drntng Room Commxttee also arranges the dmnng room seatrng plans, whnch are usually Changed at two week xntervals through out the school year To these stxteen boys and one master we owe the greatest pralse , . . . . . a ' ' ' 9 l - . . . s I . i 3 ' . . . . - . 3 Thxs consnsts of seven hard-workmg lads, they ate. night. Seated left to right Gardner Barry Lash Mr Loveland Standina left to right Dooley Whitman Law Dawes Gallo Taylor T Dodd Hampton Lee Robinson J Waddy Grossman Finlayson OBrien Chambers Rozmsky Otto Ayres J HISTORY CLUB Although the History Club has always been one of the most outstanding extra curricular organizations on Club provides a good platform for debates practice in parliamentary procedure and the opportunity to at tend worth while outside functions The Club has shown a keen interest in the activi ties of the Foreign Policy Association of Hartford This organization sponsors lectures and films on topics of current interest Through this assocratxon the club members had the opportunity to hear a speaker on Greece and the Middle East and a talk by Chester A Bowles The F P A sponsored a Model United Na tions Assembly in which our History Club pattici pared as representatives of Egypt and China I preparation for this event certain members had the opportunity to go to the United Nations in New York and interview the actual representatives of these countries This year members Barry Kolodney Lash Gardner Mitchell Chambers Dawes and Grossman represented the History Club at the Model United Nations When not preparing for outside engagements with the F P A many of the Clubs meetings were spent with debates and impromptu speeches One of the debates during the year was titled Resolved that Al geria should be given complete autonomy from France Many of our members showed promising sky The Club therefore compensates for our lack of a publtc speaking club on campus Current events have also played an important part in the clubs program for the first time this year In terest was stimulated by the members subscriptions to magazines on world affairs The club has not limited its intellectual contribu tions to its members During the fall term it spon sored a speech given by Professor Gates of Trinity College All history students were invited to attend this talk on the Constitution A great deal of the Club s success can be attributed to the fine organization and leadership of its President Ed Barry The Vice President, Joseph Kolodney Secretary Stephen Lash and Treasurer, Lanny Gard ner all served very capably The faculty advisor Mr Loveland never failed to contribute to the betterment of the club Hrs excellent supervision and suggestions were always appreciated The Hrstory Club has many able underclassmen as members, as a result it should long remain one of the most noteworthy clubs at Avon , e ' y i -'V 5 ' A x ' f . tw' T1 ' W Q' . - . Seated left to nght Thompson Otto Crawford Seconl row left to rrqht Wrllrams Trlles Kohn Brown L Van Ness Mrller Mr Durphey Wardrop Standrng left to rrght Wrlson lNehtr Futs semch Mogxelnrckr NIMROD CLUB Thls year marked the eleventh annrversary of the Nrmrod Clubs exrstence rn the New School Wrth the advent of the new year came many new prospects some brg and others not so blg but each held a srgnxfx cant spot rn the ever growmg hrstory of the club Last sprrng the membershrp assumed the some what trymg prolect of addrng a new addrtron to 1ts famrlrar log cabm The proposed extension was to be as brg as the exrstrng cabm Although the plan lay unfullfilled dur1ng the summer months xt was picked up agam ln the fall wrth much fervor and excuement No trme was wasted rn shmgllng the roof and puttlng up the srdmg whrch by the way had to be relreved of 1ts bark coverrng rn order to postpone the termrte rnva slon as long as possxble In lrne wrth nts tradrtton and purpose the club put lts stream and other hatcherxes m workmg order and stocked them wrth about a thousand trout The fall of thrs year was further hnghlxghted by Sunday trap shoots at the clubs skeet range Under the watchful supervrsron of Mrke Mrller and Barney Beall th1s sport afforded many pleasurable hours to all comets As wmter settled rn the Senrors rn the club started to renovate the old chxcken coop for use as an rndoor rlfle range When rt rs finrshed the club wlll open If to members of the student body whose rnterests l1e 10 the use of firearms The club plans to reyuvenate the sprmgs and streams ln the near future thus allowmg for good frsh mg rn most spots As most of the streams have been stocked regularly for the last few seasons no new fish wlll be added to the somewhat obscure ponds on the property The club opened nts huntlng season w1th twenty flve new pheasants added to the wrldllfe already at large Thrs was done solely out of club funds rn con trast wrth past years when the club was fortunate enough to obtam at least a dozen brrds from the Dog Tr1als now drscontmued at the school One of the more trag1c rncrdents ln club l1fe was the death of Verne Prlest Verne had been Mrs Rrd dle s chref logger and woodsman He of course cut all the wood whlch s to be found rn school and bu1lt out of oak logs the older sectlon of the present Nrmrod Cabxn It W1ll be many years before hrs achlevements are lost rn the sands of trme The club opened thls year under the drrectron of Cleve Fuessenxch Presldent assrsted by Frank Neher Vlce presxdent who succeeded h1m as Presrdent dur mg the second term oe Thompson retarned the ofhce of Secretary for both terms whrle the office of Treas urer went from Marty Mrtchell to Mlke Mrller Wlth the electron of Punch Wardrop to the club we ob tanned a skrlled projectlonlst to manage our regular Wednesday mght movies whlch lnclude a wlde varrety of out door toprcs and as goes wlthout sayrng Coach s canoe trrp rnto the wrlds of Marne The club has a wrde range of plans for the future and wzth a lot of support from out door enthusiasts If wrll remarn the most rndependent and well organrzed club ln school r 3 U - .
