History of the Class of 1949 We started our freshman year at Avon High with an enrollment of thirtyftwo members. We were full of enthusiasm and big ideas, but we soon lost them when the teachers made us buckle down to work in our classes. Besides, the seniors kept us in line for weeks with threats of initiation. When it was all over, we realized it wasn't as bad as we had thought it would be. Mr. J. W. Cox was our class advisor, and we shared home room with the sophomores in Room 6. When we came to school as sophomores, we missed a few old faces. It was a year full of skating parties, dances and other class activities. Mrs. Tullio was our class advisor and Room 7 was our home room. a Our junior year was filled with many gay and memorable activities. In the fall we started off the year by presenting our class play, a clever comedy entitled "Sneak Date" under the direction of Mrs. Collins. The Seniors gave us a formal dance "Soiree" in the school auditorium. We returned the gesture in the spring with the annual Junior-Senior Prom, which included a banquet and formal dance at Spring Valley Country Club. Mrs. Reata Collins was our class sponsor and Room 11 was our home room. The Senior year finally came. Our class now had twenty-four mem- bers. Mrs. Tullio was our class sponsor. The formal dance, which we gave for the Class of 1950 in the fall, was a very colorful and happy festivity. Everyone enjoyed themselves. On April '29, we went to Dearborn, Michigan, to see Greenfield Village, the Edison Institute, and the Ford Motor Company. On May 7, we had a wonderful time at the annual -IuniorfSenior Prom given us by the Class of 1950. The auditorium was a master' piece of decoration depicting the "Mardi Gras." We enjoyed dancing to the music of the 'jubilairesf' May 13, we presented our class play entitled, "People Are Talking" under the direction of Miss Richmond. Finally the big day came - May 24 - and we received our long' awaited diplomas and graduated. Thus we passed through the doors of the old Alma Mater for the last time. Eight
