' 64 Student Council Harmonizes Its Leadership with Kennedy Philosophy of Re-Emphasis on Americanism The 1964 Student Council, guided by its President, Ray Moore, began the year with high ideals and creative goals. Among these, as one of their many projects, the council bright- ened up the library with some attractive plants. Another creative accomplishment was that of the novel Christmas Dance. The council dared to break long tradition and provide live entertainment with a band. One more outstanding achievement by the council was their par- ticipation to the Fall Leadership Day of District 15 in Exeter. The council benefited greatly by this experience. Another goal for the council was the repairing of the pool table in the Recreation Center. Even though the goal was somewhat expensive, the council consented its use in the past and looked to its future use to pay for itself. The council again looked to the future with foundation plans for a student center. To really break tradition and help create something entirely new for Avenal High, the Council supported the creation of the American Field Service program for an exchange student from abroad. All in all, the council had accomplished what it set out to do - to institute high ideals and creative goals.
