All the girls in Avenal High School participate in the Physical Education Pro- gram. Ir is a very good program consist- ing of quite a variety of sports. The girls started the year off with swimming and volleyball. This year, with the new P. E. teacher, Mrs. Crook, the girls enjoyed dancing. Not only did they have folk dancing as they had had before, but also some modern and popular dance. So boys you had better watch out lest the girls outdo you with some of their new dance steps. Next came basketball. The winners of each period were declared champions. With the coming of spring. the girls switched to playing outside. Some periods played speedball, while others played speed-a-way. This was a new game con- sisting of some football rules and some speedball rules. Speed-a-way proved to be a very interesting experiment. Tennis and badminton were next on the calendar of events. Baseball and swimming then wound up the activities for the year. LAST STOPMATHE GYM 'g s x x vu. Q . Q s , 1. .- ,f FOURTH PERIOD CHAMPION BASKETBALL TEAM Physical Education isn't just some- place where you can get rid of that excess energy stored up from a class of History or Latin but a place to learn and develop new slclils to enable you to play a better game. Through Physical Education, a girl learns to give as well as talce. She learns to get along with others through par- ticipation in team sports and to rely on her own abilities in individual sports. So you can see there is a great deal more to physical education than just playing a game.
