A TRIP INTO OUTER SPACE Today as I gazed upon the white pillows of clouds stretched out across the deep blue sky a mem ory of the class of 54 entered my mind At that moment I was cordially invited by two startlrng but terfltes to take a Journey into the future to visit some of my classmates Upon my arrival in the great unknown I was presented with the key to the city by Mayor Robert Maner A local taxt driven by Dewey Lee Miller whisked me to the hotel where I was to stay I was given my reservation by owner and manager Buddy Patterson The bell hop who showed me to my room had shining little eyes I couldn t help but remember when he told me his name was Cook He happily informed me his daddy Bailey Cook was drtvrng a rocket from Earth to Mars After resting awhile I decided to take a tour around the c1ty It was a great surprise walktng down Mam Street to find the most exquisite clothes by Judy Maner and Ruby McEnt1re I just srmply had to have a complete new wardrobe Selecting was another hard Job too They were all drvtne and of course models Peggy McGr1ff Betty McCulloch and Dorothy Johnson brought out the highlights I barely got away tn time for lunch which was another emoyable experience at Joe s Place fEveryone knows that s Billy Joe Shaneyfelt s place I Let s all go to the races was the next attraction I noticed on all rockets so we all went Every one including myself bet on Mid Night and he won due to one fact Allyn Setbert the best trained After that day s excitement I felt I had to go to bed but they dragged me out to Ratnbow s Inn and boy' What a shock' Soft dreamy music was being rendered by Lelton Srms which made our dinner much more enjoyable We also stayed for the special added attraction Chrtsttne Bonds did an all around Hula Hula dance and were told she sang beautifully under the spot ltghts one night a week Well I would just come back and see for myself' You can call that a day or not but I dtd The next day and the next were crammed with excite ment I almost forgot to let my mother know where I was so frrst thing next morning I dropped by Western Umon and sent a lrttle message Vtrgtnra Miller was pretty swift on that business Walking on down Main Street I noticed a place I couldn t investigate Written across the top was Berry Pool Hall I knew he would run into a business like that Oh well' Who hadn t rather sell ctgars than dig dttchesv Now who would ever have thought about a school being here? That s Just where my next desttnatton was There as head of the school was Kenneth Henson and helping was Neal Allred and Mary Ann McAbee teaching girls and boys Physical Education While on my way back to the hotel I breezed tn on the Home Demonstration Club in the middle of a Progressxve meeting I quickly recognized Paulrne Thompson prestdtng and among those present were Penny Perry and Patsy Dockery After talking awhile I found they were happily performing house hold dutres They invited me to stop by a friend s home on the way out so I accepted and found myself warmly welcomed at the home of Carolyn Shaneyfelt She had just put tn one more day at the office where she held the position of private Secretary at the firm of Alwtm Stephenson She also told us Betty Walden and Dorothy Whtte were successful typtsts there . .
