Forher untiring effort during the past seven years, for her continual willingness to be of serv- ice to others, for her ability to always make the best better and for her genuine loyalty to her pupils, her fellow workers and her school, we dedicate this issue of our year book. To a man who has brought us out of the kinks, athletically speaking, during the past three years, a man whose interest in young people is never failing, whose love for his boys and his interest in their welfare always come first, we dedicate this issue of the Austinville High School Annual, No two people are more highly respected and dearly loved in our school and community than are Miss Mavis McCaghren and Coach Ioe Iones. . ,. x f'1'm I -'..' Perhaps in years to come as we leaf through this edition of Memories in Review, we will sigh and say, Oh boy, that was the year! Yes, those Hornets really stungl' After their tough regular season, in which they tallied up 19 victories and only 3 losses, they were defeated in the Morgan County Tournament by Danville. The loss for Austinville was by a very close 47-45 score. In the District Tournament the tide turned and we were victorious all the way--including our victory over Danville in the Finals Q57-471. In the District playoffs the Hornets walloped New Market by a lop-sided C67-501 score. The Senior Hornets were really on the road to victory when they traveled to the State Class A Tournament in Tuscaloosa. Although they were probably the smallest team at the State meet, it didn't seem to matter as they downed Baker Hill 152-421, Hackneyville C12-571, and Ragland C47-245. in that order. Then the BIG game of them all---the finals. The Hornets rode high-wide-and home free as they soundly trounced the Town Creek Cagers by a big 51-47 score to cap the class A State Championship Crown. Another event which was exciting as well as deserving for our champs was that Billy Woodall and Tommy Allen were placed on the All-State Team. Big Bill Woodall also walked away with another top honor-- The Most Valuable Player. The Hornet Champions are just another page in sports history nowg but a well deserved-much fought for-page Yes, we'll sigh when we reminisce over Memories' and we'll never forget this greatest of all teams--the 1953 State Championship Team.
