time Luke many of the other tots the little redhead was brought to school that first day by his fond parents Little dxd they realize that twelve years later their son would rise to the exalted position of Historian for his class Our first year was a happy one under the sympathetic guxdance of Miss Miles we learned to read write and color Each day rxght after lunch we would all lie down and rest for a while Miss Miles had each of us bring a pxllow and a quilt so that we might have a good rest In due time we were promoted to the second grade and to the status of pedestrian Throughout the other years at grade school we usually walked to school In the third grade we added a new member Carolyn Isley We drifted along to the fourth grade gaming a few and losing a few it was in this grade that Billy Jack Smith Kenneth Harpe and Rheta Summerford Joined us In the sixth grade Bess Wallace added her smile to our group The other highlight of that year was an Easter Egg Hunt which our teacher Mrs Maner planned for us Billy Don Looney carried off the honors of the day not for finding the most eggs but for killing a snake Then we were ready for Junior high school The little red headed Historian was big enough to rxde a bicycle to school Judy Bentley now Blackwell came Hughes Carlton Key and Bobby Smith and Clara Cothern made their appearances ln his first year of Senior high school the red headed lad left his bicycle and hxs childhood at home and came whlzzing to school on a motor bike ln our eleventh year Lennie Ruth Rivers who had started with us in the fxrst grade but who had moved away in the second returned to Austinvxlle we welcomed her back to our group June Linderman now Sain came into our midst last year too We were flattered to be asked by the Seniors to help them put on a group of one act plays and our play Little Darhng was a huge success Of the thirty five children who started to school in 1939 only five have made it all the way through together Dwight Ratllff Jimmy Ray Ratlxff Boyd Johnson Billy Don Looney and the redhead Mavis Johnson Joined us during this our last year We have had a successful Senior year After a campaign nn whxch we sold over S800 of magazines we were able to present to the school a new piano and tc invest in eighty five new books for the hbrary As we leave the new piano and the new books for others to enjoy we take
