TE MWORK AND H RD PRACTICE SPELL SUCCESS. AUSTIN -TRACY' S FOOTBALL GAMES In the opening games of the season, the Austin-Tracy Eagles looked tough in beating Park City by a score of 56 to 6. The game featured a strong defense and an explosive offense. The second game found Austin-Tracy going against Temple Hill. The Eagles again came through with a good defense as they held Temple Hill to 6 points with the offense scoring 33 points. Next, the Eagles played host to a new, inexperienced North Warren team. North Warren showed unexpected strength, but the Eagles won by a score of twenty-five to zero. At this time Austin-Tracy was undefeated, but had to face a tough Gamaliel team. The game was close, but the Austin-Tracy Eagles won by a score of twenty to eighteen. In the second game with the Gamaliel Tigers, the Eagles were fired up and they were victorious again with a score of thirty-one to six. In the game with Hiseville, the Eagles played exceptionally well by defeating the Cardinals forty-one to zero. It was getting close to a show down between Caverna and Austin-Tracy. when the Eagles passed up Park City on a muddy field and ran away with the game. forty-nine to zero. Then came the game that told the tale---Caverna, seven to zero, versus Austin-Tracy, seven to zero. The game was played at Caverna before an estimated crowd of fifteen hundred spectators. The Eagles fumbled on the opening kickoff and Caverna scored. Austin-Tracy fumbled again, but stopped Caverna from scoring. Then, the Eagles scored on a pass play to Terry Turner, Austin-Tracy's speedy halfback, for the first touchdown Caverna scored twice again. Austin-Tracy scored once more and the first half ended with the Eagles on the sev- en yard line with a first down and goal to go. The second half was similar to the first half, and Caverna won the contest with a score of thirty-two to twenty. Although the Eagles did not win, they established a new record for wins and losses. When the annual football banquet was held at Mammouth Cave, Austin-Tracy was honored with four all-confer- ence players--Terry Turner, Don Price, Mike Ellis, and Freddie Cunningham. Another great honor was be- stowed upon Austin-Tracy's football coach, Mr. Jimmy Manion, who was named Coach-of-the-Year.
