Perhaps the best title would be Variations on a Theme? Last year I spoke of the emerging form of the Austin idea . This year I would speak of what one may do with this idea. Now is the time for you to live, now is the time, as nature may disclose, to savor life, to know her streams, her woodland hills to climb, to read her cliffs, engraved with ancient lore, to share her moods, the carefree and sublime, and thrill with beauty from her ancient storef' I hope you have learned as we have taught that in the timeless lies the answer to all the ravages of time. Your life, your school and your world can be I renewed with the sureness of our returning spring, through the efforts of those who carry within themselves the impress of the uncarven image struggling to emerge. I hope that you are now free from the illusion that you are alone and a self- centered spectator of the panorama of life. I hope that you have learned that there is an inescapable involvement in the life of all life. I hope that you know that there is a vision to be worked for amid hate and death. Shelley said it with these words: The world's great age begins anew, The golden years return, The earth doth like a snake renew Her winter weeds outworn: Heaven smiles, and faiths and empires gleam, Like wrecks of a dissolving dream. You have lived 'fthe Austin ideav and to those of you who now leave, we have shared something that is too deeply rooted in our lives to be permanently suppressed. It is that responsibility is the handmaiden of freedom, that education is an end in itself Come back again. You have left part of yourselves here, you have taken a part of us with you. 18 135177624 U0 We, the students of the class of nineteen hundred and sixty-seven dedicate our yearbook, the Ernbla, to you, our senior English instructor, Mr. E. Barry McGurk. Your unique understand- ing of young people and eagerness to share their perspectives have marked the two years you have been here. We can only benefit from your example. , 19 ci Ugg 'N 'raT0 t fnlrwe.df HU-:PLM Ht wr- -fha' w1Yll'WlU- Cqfohlus' CU fl-LCOLZ-2.2, own fupembf badfopaunci G-Kfw k C-of H1 Gmdfhjffh .
