MAROON AND WHITE Twenty FIRST ROW: Miner, Rape, Gainer, Elsam, SECOND ROW: Mietke, Burgess, G-ouget, Miller. HAY BRANCH FACULTY At the Hay Branch, lOl8 North Laramie, ten teachers, under the supervision ot Mr. D. B. Miller, are working with a small, selective group ot three hundred and twenty freshmen, tive advanced and tour IB sections. Maior importance is placed upon academic subiects, tour languages, algebra, general science, and English. Drawing is a double minor and physical education a one hour course Every student has a solid program daily an important feature ot which is the special help or opportu- nity class from 2:l5 to 3:00 P. M. The number ot clubs is small but each is IOO per cent alive and active. The Astral Club has otlered a worthwhile program ot lectures and socials. Among its speakers have been Miss Elsam, Mr. Gouget, Mr. Miller, and Miss Rape. The Book Club has been busily engaged in collecting and exchanging books and in raising money tor new books. Aeroplane construction has been one ot the prolects ot the Hobby Club. Assemblies, socials and a Chinese auction have enlivened the school spirit. FAC U LTY The administrative stati ot the Austin High School is composed ot two hundred and thirty-tour teachers under the supervision ot thirteen department chairmen. Miss Zimmerman and Miss Cox are chairmen ot the English department. ln addition to the required English classes, courses are ottered in iournalism, public speaking, American literature, and dramatics, The mathematics department, supervised by Mr. Spitler, otters classes in tirst year algebra, advanced algebra, college algebra, plane geometry, solid geometry, and trigonometry. Mr. Nelson is at the head ot the language department. Leading the science department is Mr. Harris who is supervisor ot the classes in general science, botany, Zoology, physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology, and geology. Mr. Bollinger holds the posi- tion ot chairman ot the social science department. The commercial department is controlled by Mr. Ritter.
