If the 1988-89 school year could be summed up in two words, it would be drastic change. Since the :ginning of my term in June our school has attained a new mascot, a new Coke machine, the return of the hristmas party and gift exchange, improved Christmas spirit, the addition of color to the school yearbook, a vitalized homecoming spirit contest, a new school constitution, and after nearly 20 years the return of tramural sports. The biggest change the student body has undergone however, is our move into the new Jr. - r. High School. With this move, I hope to initiate several new ideas which will hopefully in time become adition. As I look toward the end of my administration, I eagerly await my chance to pass on the mantle of adership as well as all of the pressures and responsibilities that accompany it, with but one hope in mind, fie hope that during my tenure as Student Body President I have affected lasting and meaningful changes hich will benefit Austin High School in years to come. James Horan, President STUDENT COUNCIL Matt Miller, Melissa Hinkle, Rachel Zimmerman, Christy Brock, Kim Stainbrook, Lauren Lani, Mr. Montgomery, James Horan, Tendra Adkins, Sharolyn Young, Jenni Ramos, Holli Middleton, Bobby Fye.

A famous man once said “When a man sits with a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute. But let him sit on a hot stove for a minute and it’s longer than any hour.” That’s relativity between the ultimate purpose of an education and how the educational processes at school will in effect dictate the course of their lives. Many students talk as though school is a prison. A place where they are forced to attend and learn about things that bore them to death. Four years of High School can seem like an eternity and yet all to soon it has gone by. We are then faced with the grim realities of life. Can you find employment and enjoy life based on what you learned during your high school years? Have you gained the educational background required to attend college? Will marriage and surviving on a limited income by fulfilling when your pipe dreams crumble around you? In reality your school years should be the most happy and responsibility free years of your life. A time that you will never again be able to relive. As your Principal I would like to make your years at this school fulfilling both socially and academically. I enjoy working with young people and try to maintain a open-door policy. I want you as students to feel free and comfortable in talking to me about your concerns and or future plans. I hope that I can in some way help you to see the relativity between your efforts made here and the measure of success that you will achieve in life. Remember a man who is discontent with himself can never buy back his past. I’ve enjoyed all the good times that we’ve had this year and sincerely hope that they will provide a lot of fond memories for you. Mr. Montgomery, Principal 3 PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
