In Science we’ve studied the globe, weather, and plants animals. We made paper-mache globes. We also made pinatas for a combination English Art lesson. We all participated in building the manatee. We saw the Air show in Fallon plus visited a mine in Battle Mountain. We participated in an hour-long silent reading with Mrs. Anderson’s class. CLASS OF 1997 22

Heather Armistead Cristy Bradford Arlo Brady James Brawley Brandi Kolacki Ryan Fife Kristal Lund Jerry Hammon Jaime Manzini Jason Manzini Paul Middleton Elsa Moreno Teddy O’Brien Jet Utter Lonnie Wallace Nathan Young The fifth grade this year attended the Fallon Air Show, participated in a cross-age Language Arts Program with emphasis on the Manatee, were penpals with students in Idaho and Guam, participated in activities for Nevada Reading Week, were taught and certified in CPR, and learned animal anatomy by dissecting various small animals. They also participated in a literature based reading program, did interviews with towns people and wrote, proofread, edited, rewrote and published these interviews into a collective history of Austin. Finally the 5th grade was involved in Austin Schools’ first experience with the “Mimi” program, a science math unit which incorporates video tapes, computer programs and reading material into a unit about whale exploration.
