PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE One of the greatest blocks to success is self-pity. It is the mistake we make when things don't go as we want them to. For several years now, too many people in our school have not accomplished as they should have. Too many of us have used the size of the school as an excuse for non-achieving. It is my opinion that the 1968-70 school years have been our years for change. Maybe we are beginning to see that size is not grandeur, or that territory does not make a nation. Determination, hard work, and individual effort can and will put Austin High on the top. You have taken the first step forward, I urge you to continue. I think no virtue goes with size. To the Seniors go my best wishes and hearty congratulations. Respectfully, 5

Now that the school year is almost over, I can say that the Student Council has been an improvement over the preceeding years. The teachers have been a tremendous help to us in fulfilling our duties as Student Council. We haven't done all of what we wanted to do but the Student Coun- cil is getting better each year. The Student Body of 69-70 has made a very important improvement also. Their improvements are in Spirit and Attitude, which in my book are very important in any school. I hope the Student Body and the Student Council of the following years to come are as good or better as this years. I want to thank everyone for the help given to me. Sincerely, Richard Brandt Student Body President STUDENT COUNCIL Student Council members: Curtis Schmidtlein, treasurer; Rhonda Dory, secretary; Vernon Bill, vice-president; Valerie Gandolfo, clerk of election; Richard Brandt, president. 6
