CULTIVATE OUR MINDS Mrs. Kyle, one of our mathematics teachers, enjoys reading and doing needlework in her leisure time. Mr. Stier, who has taught mathematics at Aurora for six years, coaches B-team basketball, the cross country squad, and Aurora’s baseball team. BEATR1Z KYLE B. A., Western College, Ohio HAROLD STIER B. S., Hanover M. S., Butler Mrs. Kyle teaches advanced math to the senior students. This includes a course in plane trigonometry, analytic geometry, calculus, statistics, and solid geometry. A spherical globe, like she is using here, helps the students to understand a sphere and polar triangles. [ 25 ]

SCIENCE AND MATH The two chemistry classes have lab experiments with each chapter. The students test hydrogen to find its chemical properties. EUGENE GABBARD A. B., Maryville College M. A., Indiana Central College Mr. Gabbard, Aurora's high school principal, likes to fish and annually takes a trip to Canada or Michigan for this purpose. Mr. Hall, physics and biology teacher, spent twenty-five summers working as a life guard. He has earned an Advanced Certificate in Science and Mathematics. Mr. Rice, our chemistry teacher, spends his spare time collecting stamps, reading historical fiction, and raising flowers. The future of science rests in the hands of today's students? t 24 ]

SKILLS ARE SHARPENED MILTON MASING B. S., Ball State Teachers College WILLIAM PLATT BPSM, Indiana University M. A., Indiana University Mr. Masing, art teacher for all our grade schools and the high school, paints and draws in his spare time. During the summers he attends school. Mr. Platt, band and choir director, has shaped and directed excellent musical groups at Aurora for years. He starts students in the fifth grade and teaches and directs them until they complete high school. Melanie Christian poses as model as the art class attempts to become the Michelangelo of tomorrow. Good tone quality is one of the most important factors for a top notch band. Mr. Platt spends many hours teaching the band the perfection of shading. [ 26 ]
