WE DANCED ALL NIGHT The girls held on to their escorts as they descended down the runway. Spike heels clicked and the gowns rustled in the breeze. Dancing was the favorite pastime of everyone; you were alone on the floor with your partner but surrounded by others. Everyone had a wonderful time. If you weren’t dancing, you watched the others, caught up on the latest news, made a trip to the coke counter, or enjoyed a quiet chat on the moon deck.

EVERYONE EAGERLY AWAITED OUR PROM The Avalon arrived early on the eve of our enchanted night and rested on the still, shining waters of the scenic Ohio River. Even though it was quiet on board now, within several hours the dance floor would be ringing with a mixture of joyful laughter and melodic music. The top deck, now chilled and deserted, was soon to be spotted with gorgeous gowns and warmed by a silvery moon. A brisk night did not discourage the crowd that gathered to watch the bright eyed couples as they hurried to join their friends in the traditional rainbow march. Each handsome fellow and his fair lady walked hand in hand under the decorated arch and were introduced to the admiring public who enjoyed seeing every frilly frock and crisp white dinner jacket. THEN CROWNED OUR ROYAL COUPLE Midnight ended the reign of last year's king and queen. John Reid and Charlene Lock-wood. and marked the beginning of a new reign for our royal couple, John Ullrich and Pat Jackson. Our smiling king. John Ullrich, and queen, Pat Jackson, were welcomed with applause, cheers, and flashing bulbs as they walked to their throne in a happy daze. N
