'T THE nEvlL's DIARY Assistant Editor Jan Daugherty and Editor Diana DeHart plan a page for the l960 yearbook. To insure the students, faculty, and gen- eral readers of an up-to-date, highly-rated an- nual, the dummy--or master plan--of the 1960 AURORA BOREALIS was planned at the I. U. Journalism Institute during July and August of 1959. Many long hours were spent in planning and preparing pictures, copy, and layouts. Emergency meetings of the annual staff were called by Editor Diana De Hart and Advisor Lester Kruse to answer such questions as: What color should our cover be? g Will the students accept this new trend? g How should the pic- ture on page 10 be placed? Finally, the ques- tions were answered and the deadlines met. The success of our annual now depends on you, the reader. ,XX , i ,Y 'fx t e ft, f V ' V V Loraine Shuter and Sharyn Bradford discuss the place- ment of pictures as Deanna Landwehr prepares to type the rx-A, 'UN The staff writes copy and scans for ideas to make '60's yearbook the best ever.

ETS OFF T0 PRESS IJ Loraine Shuter and John Althoff scan previous Hi-Lite issues for future stories. S Assistant Editor, Sharyn Bradford, and Editor, Jan Daugherty, receive a lesson on news- paper make-up from Raymond Baer of the Aurora Journal Bulletin. We hope to have published an outstand- ing newspaper which has served an outstand- ing school, stated a member of the journal- ism class. Journalism students, getting that smudge of ink into their blood as they learned to edit and publish a newspaper, strived to make the A. Hi- Lite an entertaining but educational paper. New features had to be writteng some had to be omit- ted. The class shared the fini of creating and of seeing their product in print. From Mr. Robert Terry of the Cincinnati Post-Times Star we learned the inside story of the fascinating world of the reporter. Together. the class learned the value of unprejudiced news and the power of the press. L , .,,, ,- .,.r,f.l...r....u..
