After early season mistakes, the team improved with each game. The players displayed intense desire, which resulted in good hard tackling and blocking. The climax of the season was the defeat of Golden in a play off game 19-13. The team was at its best for the game and desire and determination paid off as the Trojans upset the favored Demons. The entire team played well and was high in League statistics, rolling up 104 points to 53 for opponents. Individual league leaders were: Rushing - Ben Gamer - 12.6 average per carry. Scoring - Ben Garner - 42 points. Passing - Jerry Ralph - 15 completions, 28 attempts, 254 total yards. Punting - Fred Liebold - 35.5 average. The '55-'56 basketball team was, in the beginning, hampered by inexperience and the loss of lettermen. The preconference games were, for the most pan. erratically played and a number of games were lost by close margins because of this. Only Denver Manual was able to rout the Trojans completely. Teamwork made its appearance with regular conference play. The second round of play was sparked by Rich Jaquith, Gary Benson and Bruce Bell. The highlight of the season came with the triumphs over Golden. Aurora finished second in the league. Selections for the All-Star team were Rich Jaquith, first team; and Bruce Bell, second team; Jaquith was one of two unanimous choices and also fifth from the highest scorer in the league; Aurora had seven players in the top thirty scorers.
