H. S. I 1 I CAPTAIN LUND © 0 We can truthfully say that the basketball season of 1928-29 was really a grand success. A lot of the credit is due to the coach, Mr. Day and to the captain, Arnold Lund. Aurora High was very fortunate indeed in having Mr. Day as coach of athletics. Coach Day has had a great deal of personal experience in all branches of athletics. Just looking ahead one year and realizing that all of the Trojans hut one will be back for a full season of basketball makes us wonder what the old gang will do with the help of every one. “Ted” was the only letterman on the team this year, this being his third year. He played forward, and was a main man in offense, and never lost in defense either. Arnold played his best game on the defense. He played guard. It is doubtful whether lie will play basketball with the Trojans again and he COACH DA 'll be greatly missed. Harold played undoubtedly the hardest position on the lloor. He played center and was a conservative player and could lie depended upon to make a share of the goals. “Moon,” the largest joke on the team, and was indeed the main scorer lor the Trojans. Fortunately the Trojans will be able to depend on him for two more years. “Cherry,” known for his pep and light, played guard and a fast game. He would never quit or give up. “Bert” played a conservative game. Like all of the subs he was prepared to substitute in either the forward or guard position. “Phil also played a good game. Since he is a Sophomore, the Trojans should find considerable support from him in future athletics. “Bob” showed the materials of a good player. He was not in action quite as much as some, hut enough to show his qualities. “Tick” rather ruined his opportunities this year by being gone for some time during the first part of the season. However he has the makings of a good guard. “Fred,” unable to come out until the season was almost over, was of rather untried mettle. He did very well for the time he was out. He wifi not be with us next vear. 9 $ 0 9 0 9 0 0 © 0 © 0 1221 Aurora Borealis 0 9 © 9 © 9 0 © 9 § THE TRACK TEAM An unusually large number of athletically inclined boys turned out for track Ibis spring. Aurora should be represented in almost every event at the Suburban League Meet to be held the first week in May. On April 12th an inter-class meet was held. The Sophomores came off easily victorious and were awarded tlie Trophy Cup given by the school to the highest point class. Honorable mention and a prize were given to Hie high point boy and girl. Arl Kelso was the lucky chap, winning three firsts in the weights. Grace Retluneier was high point girl. This year it was arranged that the girls might prove their superiority in certain contests, such as nail-driving and baseball-throwing, and also in various races. The Freshman and Sophomore classes were the only ones to have representatives in this division. © © © o 9 © 9 9 P 9 © 0 0 9 9 9 9 9 Those reporting for track and field are Arl Kelso, Ted Hafer. Harold Rayiner, Rert Norton, Stuart Ware, Philip Ballard, George Ball, Paul Cherrington, John and Robert Franks, Rex Kelso, Arnold Lund, Frank Burgess, Rob Wood, Eugene Lassmann, Albert Runkle, and a few others who are not quite as efficient, or at least not as confident, and are therefore not reporting as regularly. In general Freshman and Sophomore classes are taking care of track events, and the Junior and Senior classes are doing their best with the field events. © P 9 9 © 9 © 0 © © Aurora Iiorralis [23 1 THE AURORA BOREALIS, 1928-1929 This year the Aurora Borealis has been published bi-weekly on mimeograph paper. (Did you see Thurston Cox after the curtain was down?) Marie (Margaret Andersen) was a French maid horn in Ireland. Polly Perkins (Maxine Hunter): “How could a girl he pretty with a name like that?” But she was. Mrs. Beverly (Virginia Hall) couldn’t bear to live in a Harlem flat! Mr. Beverly (Arnold Lund): “By George, the imprint of a woman’s hand. It’s a good thing I didn’t have that there when I came in!” Hortense (Mary Winifred Manis): “I went to Paris for that music!” Geraldine (Blanche Lancaster): “Well, if you did you forgot to bring it back!” Pudgy (Geraldine Sheldon): “Gee, lady, he ain’t no regular coward. Soap and water are about the only things he’s afraid of.” Tommy (Buddy Starns): “I wan’ ta go home.” Miss Bushnell (Esther Maul): “I’m about as welcome around here as a snow storm at a fourth of July celebration.” Miss Rembrandt (Maurine Watkins): “Oh, I'm a manicurist, Mr. Beverly, not a brain specialist.” Harkins (Ralph Rathburn): “Me, me, with a pick and shovel? Lord, what would become of my dignity?” Mrs. !• catherstone (Mildred Lund): “I believe those people are talking about us.” Mrs. Chadlicld (Vena Ballard): “The horrid people!
