CCUNTER-BATTERY' , AULT departed Subic Bay on 27 July for the last time. In company with DESDIV 161, AULT commenced three days of Operation Sea Dragon. On 31 July, while conducting a raid against a loading site 18 miles north of Dong Hoi, AULT came under heavy fire from defense sites of North Vietnam. Over 50 rounds of 80 MM am- munition landed in the proximity of the ship as she ma- neuvered to retire after destroying the target. No damage or casualities were suffered, but shrapnel was found over much of the main deck and superstructure which the crew quickly claimed for souvenirs. i B
