With Ronda appointed as trail boss and Shonie as the right hand man and Beth as clerk, the rest of us brought up the rear of the herd. For the annual shindig with the trail herds, we chose Ronda and Bill to represent our group, 'The '89 Cattle Company. The theme for our entry into the covered wagon contest was Skin the Panthers. Foremen for the year were Mr. Susag and Mr. Folmer. But at the end of the year, Mr. Folmer rode off south looking for warmer weather. In the fall of 1986, we reached the Sophomore Badlands. Mr. Larson was hired as our new foreman along with Mr. Susag. After a new election, Rachel was chosen to lead the group, with Jill at her side and Beth remained as clerk. The crew of trail hands was the still the same. For our second annual shindig, we chose Rachel and Sean to represent our group. Our entry this year was Elk Spirit Comes In Cans, Not Can’ts” which received second place. We reached the Junior Mountains in the fall of 1987. Parts of our journey were very difficult. During the course of the journey, we acquired Rory Kolste and Dale Camp as trail hands. Delbert Pond was lost due to a sudden stampede during the night. After two months, Dale drew his wages and rode off and was never heard from again. Wtih our foremen being the same, we hired Sean as trail boss, Rachel as right hand man, and Jill as clerk. Beth and Rory were chosen to represent us at the annual shindig and won the honor of Princess and Prince. This year our company put on the annual whoop-up which was held on March 26. The theme was I Won’t Forget You and our colors were black, silver, and hot pink. A good time was had by all! In the fall of 1988, we finally reached the last part of our treacherous journey, the Sweet Senior Valley. Jill Bakken, in her quest to become Pocahontas, left and joined the Blackfeet tribe in Valier. Rory Kolste, while passing through the Highwood Mountains, stopped to pan for gold and became a Mountaineer. That left eight for the rest of the journey-Ronda. Rachel, Janette, Bill, Sean, Shonie, Rhonda, and Beth- six girls and two boys. During the fall we were temporarily delayed due to a prairie fire, and in the early sping when our herd was looking worn and ragged, we ran into -45 degree weather and the herd and company barely survived. During an Indian attack. Mr. Larson was scalped and Mr. Gottwig took over to help Mr. Susag. For the final leg we chose Rachel as trail boss, Shonie as her right hand man, Ronda as record keeper, and Beth as chief money keeper. For the fourth and final shindig, we chose Shonie and Bill to represent our company. Bill was chosen as King and Shonie as Princess. Our entry for the covered wagon contest was Box the Bears. At this year's whoop up, Bill and Beth were chosen King and Queen and Sean and Shonie as Prince and Princess. On May 21, 1989 we reached our final destination. We all drew our wages and rode off in different directions to pursue our lifelong dreams.
