CLASS WILL CLASS OF “83” HISTORY In the fall of 1980, 23 slaves joined together at AHS to face the first four years of service. The Head slave was Neal Anderson, Neal’s right hand man was Charlie Taylor, Lisa Merganthal kept records and funds. Jenny Slanger voiced our small opinions. The overseer was Gary Betcher, who stood guard with his whip and gun at all times. The slave candidates of the year were Lisa Merganthal and Loren Boadle. We lost Glenna Fryberger, Stephanie Heldreth, Jody Fasset, Brian Triplet, and Barbie and Cal Miller. They transfered to another plantation. 1981 brought in other plantation workers, they were Jim Luciano, Tammy Mulhiem, Debbie Dean, Buddie Jackson, Chris Stankewich, and Wendy LaRoque. The new work leaders were Kevin Grantier, Buddie Jackson, and Lisa Merganthal. Our new overseer was Cal Wearley who helped us build our winning float, entitled “Elks Preach About Cardinal Sins”. Wendy LaRoque and Charles Taylor were slave candidates. Debbie Dean, Jim Luciano, Tammy Mulheim, and Jenny Slanger deserted us, and Buddie Jackson was sold at the end of the year, along with Lee Wright. Our third year brought in Theresa Wilson, Sheila Abele, Kim Temple- ton, Eric Rubenik, Mona Whitmore, Kent Wright (who also claimed to he a senior), and Jenny Slanger was brought back after her escape Karen Weikum was brought in later on in the year. The new slave workers for this year Jon Wearley, Kent Wright (who took over position as head worker, and then resigned because he couldn’t handle the slaves) and Wendy LaRoque. There were two overseers brought in to keep charge of us, they were Cliff Wilson and Katherine Hamilton. The slave candidates for this year, were Brady Dunning and Kim Templeton. During the year Theresa Wilson, Sheila Abele, and Jenny Slanger escaped But towards the end of the year there was an idea brought about to build another plantation in Lincoln, the idea was a good one, and the work on the new plantation began for the following year. Mark Biresch, Wendy Laroque, Kim Templeton, and Mona Whitmore were recruited to the Lincoln plantation. Neal Anderson had the obligation to go the new plantation or stay at AHS. He proved to be a very wise person and stayed to finish his 4 year sentence at AHS. Stepping into our last year there were no new slaves brought in. Our head worker for our final year was Brady Dunning, and Loren Boadle was chosen to be his right hand man. Lisa Mergenthal was again appointed the job of keeping track of the records and funds. We again had two overseers to take charge of us, they were Cliff Wilson and Nora McCarthy. The Slave candidates for our final year were Bobby Swanson and Lisa Mergenthal, who were also picked as King and Queen. Kevin Grantier joined our plantation because he wasn’t accepted to the Great Falls plantation But he didn't last long at AHS, and was later sent to the Lincoln plantation. The war ended on May 16, 1983 and the slaves were all freed. Good luck slaves. CLASS HISTORY CLASS WILL OF 1983.
