SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Mr. Rohnke and Mr. Wilson, the senior class sponsors, herded all of the seniors into the gym. Bewildered and curious, the seniors sat before a funny-looking machine with lots of lights, levers, buttons, and knobs. To the right of this curious machine stood a thin little man with white hair. He wore baggy pants and a long lab coat. His horn-rimmed glasses sat on the end of his long slender nose. This delicate machine I have here ' he said, is a a time machine. Now you may believe me, and you may not, but the most precious gift that I can give this graduating class of 1980 is a look into your futures. When he asked for a date to set his machine, the year 2,000 was called out. The little man busily set about twisting dials, turning knobs, and pushing buttons. Then he turned around and, with a smile on his face, said, Would there be anyone who is brave enough to partake the events of being first? Mr. Wilson volunteered. Mr. Wilson stepped up to the machine and looked into the little screen while the professor placed a small cap upon his head. A few seconds later a red light appeared and the professor removed the cap. Mr. Rohnke was next. This procedure continued until all of the seniors had had their turn. The professor assured everyone that it was not a hoax, and the machine started putting occupations with the names of the students. The first to show up was that Chris Melaney still couldn't decide which guy to go out with. Tammy Fryberger is the centerfold model and Playboy Bunny of the year. Joe Wood is Mr. Uni- verse, and Susy Taylor is the first woman President of the United States. Karen Mershon has finally gradu- ated from high school with the graduating class of 2,000, Rodger Holm will still be creating a junkyard out of his own wrecked cars, and Jeff Hoeffner will be Bill Grantier's chauffer after the weekend parties Tammy Lame just invented contact lenses that can't be lost, and Trina Salisbury will be working on her fifteenth engagement. Tammy Sitch is the Chairman of the Board at Warm Springs, and Pam Varland is Alcoholics Anonymous' number-one customer. Libby Allen is a famous opera singer, Bob Cloninger is the defensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys, and Travis Barker owns the Chrysler Corporation. Robbie Baldry and Nathan Slanger have their own rock group, Doug Everhart will still be held hostage in Iran after being abducted during the war, and Randy Halverson is a famous chef in a French restaurant. Doug Wood is another Albert Einstein, Ty Steinbach is still practicing to be the next Electric Horseman, and Teresa Wearley is finally taking trumpet lessons. Dave Heldreth, though much older, is still peering around corners to find out how many girls will mob him. Greg Boadle is still learning from which end to shoot the basketball for his team to score. Laurie Daniel hasn't found the perfect diet yet, but Chrissy Fusaro is still helping her look. Last comes Dave Snyder who is trying to design a school that doesn't require any work. All of the kids were rolling on the floor with laughter by this time, and then came Mr. Rohnke and Mr. Wilson's prediction. Mr. Wilson will be million= aire from his hair-growing tonic, and Mr. Rohnke is now into forty-two waist pants. 15 After the laughter had settled down, the kids thanked the little professor for the good time and wished him luck. But, in the back of everyone's mind, was still the prediction of the future by the little man and his machine and the question, Will it come true?
