There were twenty of us eager students. We chose Patti Purdy as our chief cook and bottle washer and Noel Anderson to lend her a hand. Karla Mills was to keep books, while Richard Turner told us how broke we were. Mr Kopit .ke was electe, to keep the clan together. As Homecoming drew near, we chose Julie Applebury for our Queen candidate and Lenny Orr as her escort. Our float was entitled All Creatures Great and Small Know the Elks Will Conquer Alb And what do you know, we managed to come out in last place! This set the pace for our Homecomings in years to come. But looking on the bright side, we gained four new members to the clan: Jesse Wilson, April Dess, Aaron Daniel, and Trade Anderson. As we began our Sophomore year, we were a little more wise in the ways of the school. This time we let I enny Wood try to fill the shoes of the President, with Patti Purdy backing her up. Tari King was to record our accomplishments and f am bitch was to keep track of our meager earnings. Mr. Carter was given the task of trying to keep us ,n line. For Homecoming, we decided upon Patti Purdv as Our Queen candidate with Gary W'eisner as her escort. Our float was Drum I p a V idory and once again we captured last place. Our class was down to sixteen members, having lost Julie Applebury, Bob Ben .. Bryan Blair. Jeff Meuehel, Karla Mills, Alice Tjaden. Jesse Wilson, April Dess. Richard Turner, and Tracie Anderson. But we had two brave souls who joined our ranks: Janalee Varland and Travis Barker. r As our climb began to level off, we found ourselves back in the same ol place — the balls of A.H.S. for our Junior year. Noel Anderson was selected as our Man of the Year” and Patti Purdy was once again right there to help out.Judy Jahnke was S chosen to keep the log and count our gold, as this year we had concessions. As Homecoming approached, Pam Max was our Queen candidate and Travis Barker our King candidate. Our float was Stomp 'Em and this ttmewe moved up in the world and didn't finish last! Our Prom was a tremendous success. Our theme was Looks Like We Made It and our the m« .one was Mahogany Miss Boley and Mr. Shoemaker somehow managed to get up through the year with only a few minor disasters. We gained Jean Castagne. Rachel! Christensen, John Zornes, and Pam Max as new recruits. We lost Robbie Balek. Alvin Kornee, Lenny Orr, and Penny Wood. Finally we became the Mighty Seniors and the summit was m sight. Patti Purdy was selected as leader of the gang with Tari King next in line. Judy Jahnke was given her second term as Secretary-Treasurer. Miss Boley also returned to keep the peace Our Homecoming Queen candidate was Rachelle Christensen and our King candidate was John Zornes Our float was entitled Let's Make Tiger Slew and guess what? We Won!! For the annual. Janalee Varland and Patti Purdv were the co- editors with Pam Sitch and Patti Purdv .napping pictures. Aunt CatJiies' Cal was the name of our play, directed by Miss Boley The curtain went up for our outstanding performance on April 6. At the Junior-Senior Prom Tari King was honom as Oueen with Noel Anderson as King. Patti Purdy was named Princess and Gary Weisner was Prince. The Senior banquet was held at the 7-Up Ranch in Lincoln on Mav 11. Baccalaureate was May 20, at 2:00 P.M. in the Augusta Community Churck Commencement ceremonies were held May 20, 8:00 P.M. in the Augusta High School Gymnasium. Tan king was Valndieto- nan and Judy Jahnke was Salutatoriam Ken Tribby and Terry Welker had joined us incur final march. But as we reached our goal, we were onlv fourteen strong, having lost Ken Tribby, Aaron Daniel, Travis Barker, and Steve Burke. Our school years are now over and all in all we've had a good time. W Ve ’elated that this part of our journey is completed, but our memories at A.H.S. will live with us forever. CLASS PROPHECY The year is 2039. and once again we look in on ihe Class of 1979 swinging into another rowdy c lass reunion. This time it is being held in the “Sweat Hog Mental Institution. Organizing this gala affair is Patti Purdy. She’s done an excellent job as always, with help from the class’ ex-sponsor Miss Boley. Zooming in on the fun, we find John Zornes, mad scientist from Boulder, explaining the func tion of “X-’ = (fpyt to anyone listening. Seated opposite him but ignoring him, we discover Penny Jo Hoeffner and Pam Max deep in serious conversation. Penny Jo has decided to finally ask Dan Que to marry her and figures that since Pam is a professional seamstress from the Silky Satin Company, perhaps she would be willing to sew the wedding dress. Good luck to them both. Suddenly, to speed the party up, Raehelle Christensen, singing beautician, swings into a rousing rendition of the old school song “Stand Up and Cheer. She’s accompanied by Tari King on the clarinet and Judy Jahnke on the piano. Both Tari and Judy play on the Lawrence Welk Show. You can see them Satruday nights at 7:00 P.M. Everyone appreciates this bit of nostalgia and applauds heartily. Soon it’s time for lunch and the main dish is beef jerky from famous millionaire Ric hard Mason’s jerky factory in Lincoln. Everyone enjoys the food, even Janalee Varland, although she spends the rest of the afternoon picking Jerky out of her teeth! Immediately after lunch, a familiar voice rings out: “Pam Sitch, that’s a five page report!” Pam, once with the Harlem Globe Trotters, stops bouncing the basketball against the wall with her hip and turns to greet a fiesty wee old man in a wheelchair, soon recognized as honored guest and ex-history teacher, Mr. Wilson. Jean Castagne, California’s Queen of the Surf, sees her old buddy and offers to wheel him around the rest of the day. Some time later, everyone notices Terry Welker’s absence along with Gary Weisner’s. They are located at the phone booth. Terry has called Dave Sitch up to finish their argument and Gary, Nobel Peace Prize Winner, talks them both into making up. Noel Anderson is the first to depart from the fun. He's a stock car racer and is on his way to the World Finals. Soon everyone departs, tired but looking forward to the next reunion in 2049. CLASS WILL NOEL ANDERSON wills his driving record to Ann Erickson, who’s well on her way already of setting a record. JEAN CASTAGNE w ills all her sympathy to the Lincoln students that have to ride the Prison bus to school Monday-Friday. RACHELLE CHRISTENSEN w ills her ability to make the honor roll to her brother Aaron. PENNY JO HOEFFNER wills her height to the Freshmen boys— they need it! TARI KING wills her old blue car to Tom Bilger, so he can't get in trouble for reckless driving since it doesn’t run! JUDY JAHNKE wills her hair to Mr. W ilson to stop the glare coming off the top of his head. RICHARD M ASON wills his engineer’s hat to Mr. Stiffler. PAM MAX wills her quiet ways to Tammy Sitch. PATTI PURDY w ills her ability to sprain her ankle to Jeff Hoeffner, not that he needs it, though. PAM SITCH w ills her underwear to Chris Melaney to help her gel with the times. JANALEE VARLAND vs ills her leprechaun suit to Bob Cloninger. GARY WEISNER wills his ability to be late for school to Laurie Daniel. TERRY WELKER wills her ability to skip school and get away with it to Dave Snyder. JOHN ZORNES wills his ability to get along with Miss Boley to the Junior Class. TE GREAT CLASS OF 1979 wills to the teachers and students their brilliant minds and bodies in hopes they will find some | use for them. 7 3 ECOLOGY DAY GRADES 75 J R Bark row. L.
