The co-proprietors of the Cataract Falls Rest Home are Lori Shoemaker and Debbie Lame. As each person arrives, Lori greets them with a rousing cheer from her wheel chair while Debbie herds them into the recreation room and makes them COMFORTABLE. The class mascot, a purple elephant, is there to greet everyone. One of the first to arrive as susal is Richard Halverson. Using his witchcraft, he drops in on the reunion, scar- ing Joan Vincent almost out of her rocker. Joan was lucky to have made it at all since it is Monday. Next to arrive is Linda Erickson, alias “Orange,” who almost doesn’t make it because she couldn’t find a ride and she hasn’t bothered to get a driver’s license yet. But, thank goodness, Susie Mergenthal agreed to make a detour through Choteau on her way from Fairfield where she had been kept busy. By the way, Susie was recently named poet laureate of Sun River Canyon. Rick Holm is no longer a roadrunner. He comes putting into the yard in his old car which breaks down just as he arrives, and he hops out to attempt to fix it. As Theresa Olivares arrives, she greets Mr. Rohnke, the class sponsor, with her usual, “Hi Honey!’’ and quickly joins in on the fun. And so for entertainment, Shawn Steinbach offers to tell about his great rodeo experiences, but this doesn't go over too well. Instead, Nancy Morgan challenges all of the men to a wrestling match, and as usual, comes out the victor. Dave Sitch demanded a rematch and upon being beaten again by Nancy, he challenged her to a crutch race. Mike Henry decided to be a a contestant, also. Mike crashed right after the start, and Nancy hobbled on to beat Dave once again. Brad Varland is just arriving. He is late because he was right in the middle of a fight with Chrissy Fusaro. this makes it their 987,642nd fight. All of a sudden the room was filled with loud rock and roll music as Phil Johndrow and Tony Wood enter while listening to a Nazereth tape. They were quickly quieted down; and because everyone was in the mood for some more music, Jeff Kessler and Dave Abele joined together in some John Denver songs. Meanwhile, Jeff White and Scott Weiss have been up to their old tricks. They spiked the punch and had just recently escaped being caught when they snuck into their old Augusta High School to have a look around. Anyway, next on the agenda is another race, a motorcycle race. Mini-bikes with training wheels on them were lined up at the starting line. Linda Erickson and Lyn McDonough squeeze on one while Shawn Steinbach climbs on another and Craig Solberg hobbles to the last one. Everything starts out fine and the cyclists even reach the incredible speed of 10 m.p.h. Then suddenly it happens. Linda and Lyn lose control and go crashing into Craig who, in turn, hits Shawn. DiAnn Weiss, who has become a nurse, makes her way to the scene of the accident. Luckily, no one was seriouly injured, but all get up laughing over the incident and begin reminiscing about other wrecks they’ve been in. And so this is the Augusta High School grduating class of 1978 at their golden anniversary. CLASS WILL We, the mighty class of 1978 make this our last high school will and testimony, hoping that we can leave a little sunshine and happiness with the underclassmen of Augusta High School DAVE ABELE wills his guitar playing to Rohn Nelson. CINDY ERICKSON wills her love to read to Judy Jahnke and Tari King. LINDA ERICKSON wills her bedroom to Pam Sitch and her fifteen minutes in the bathroom every morning to Diana Sitch for whom thirty minutes doesn't seem to be enough. RICHARD HALVERSON wills his Enlgish grades to Steve Burke. MIKE HENRY wills his love for water to anyone who is crazy enough to take swimming lessons for him. PHIL JOHNSON wills his coolness, charisma, looks and magnificent physique to Buford and his cool body to all the girls of AHS. JEFF KESSLER wills what little singing ability he has to Tammy Sitch. DEBBIE LAME wills her love life to anyone who would like to star in a Walt Disney movie. LYN McDONOUGH wills her Vo-Ag Class to all the girls in Augusta High School hoping they should get a little grease on their hands sometime. SUSIE MERGENTHAL wills her love for English classes to Noel Anderson. NANCY MORGAN wills her nickname to Kelli Fryberger so she can grow into it and that she might change the U in Mouse to an O. « TERESA OLIVARES wills her extra credits to Robbie Balek. (What extra credits?) LORI SHOEMAKER wills her soft-spoken voice to Tammy Sitch and her temper to Teresa Wearley. DAVE SITCH wills his country music tapes to the kids on the Lincoln bus so they can listen to some “real music.” CRAIG SOLBERG wills his ability to be moody to Pam Sitch. SHAWN STEIN BACH wills his never miss rope to Travis Barker. BRAD VARLAND wills his favorite bathtub at the Heritage Inn to Jeff Weiss. JOAN VINCENT wills her thick curly hair to Robin Cloninger. JEFF WHITE wills his ability to argue with teachers to anyone brave enought to try it. DIANN WEISS wills her love to party to all underclassmen. SCOTT WEISS wills his ability to argue to someone who is agreeable. FRANK WITT wills his secret parking places to his brother Dave because he is young and doesn’t know his way around too well yet and his dedication to the annual to next year’s annual staff. TONY WOOD wills his ability to not take a book home all year to Steve Burke. The class of ‘78’ as a whole like to will their memories and good times to the future upcoming senior classes because there are enough to go around. CLASS PROPHECY by Patti Purdy, junior For their Golden Anniversary, dueto their arthritic conditions, the class of 1978 met at the Cataract Falls Rest Home in the year 2028, The organizer of the gala affair was Frank Witt. Frank just arrived incognito (so Penny Jo wouldn't recognize him) from Washington, D.C., where he has just completed the spring planting of blue- bunch wheatgrass on the White House lawn. 28
