WAPITI Members of the 1964 Senior Class wish to present this volume of the Wapiti to their parents and the community of Augusta. This 1964 annual will recall fond memories to those who have partaken in the accomplishment of this yearbook. The past school years have been spent in preparation for life’s future which depends on the capabilities of the class of 1964. We would like to thank each and every one wholeheartedly for their irreplacable support. 1 DEDICATION We, the class of 1964 dedicate this annual to our outstanding teacher, Mr. Clifford Wilson. Mr. Wilson has taught courses in history at the Augusta High School for the past years. The Senior Class sincerely expresses their ut- most gratitude to the help and cooperation we have received from his interest in our activities. 2 fblunl histoni cli A meri! PAUL ROHNKE To possess something that is a token of our achievements, a reminder of our pleasant as- sociations and experiences, a tribute to those we FOREWORD hold high in esteem is desired by all. In pre- paring for the Wapiti for 1964 we hope we have accomplished that purpose. May it be a reminder of a year’s endeavor to attain a higher goal, a means by which we may live again in memory the pleasant days at AHS. May it be a symbol of our loyalty to the institution that has prepared us for our life work. SCHOOL BOARD: Art Mills, Bill Bar- rett, Roland Mosher, Bert Artz and Roscoe Geise. ADMINISTRATION The Administration consists of the School Board Members and the superintendent. The Board Members are hard-working men of the community who deserve a lot of credit for keeping the school functioning properly. The only reward these men receive is the satisfaction of seeing a job well done. As an individual, the superintendent has the largest responsibility. The welfare of the School and student body are continually on his mind. All the students should realize his efforts to help them and respect him for his time and devotion to their betterment. 4 FACULTY MR. Election of officers found Terry Nett, president; Tom Troy, vice president; Ray Goss sec- retary; and Mike Super, treasurer. Mr. Boyd served as class sponsor. During the year we gained Frank Martin and Beryl Bachlet and lost Claudia Wildin. As sophomores twenty-two of us enjoyed our turn at smearing lipstick on the freshmen! Karen Anderson, Lynne Ellis, Joe Geldrich, Mike Super, Butch Tuell, and Beryl Bachlet did not return this year, but we gained Claudia Wildin, Leo Goss, Vernon Rosson, and Irvin Wiederhold. Class officers were Norman Grosfield, president; Carol Gourley, vice president; Tom Troy, secretary; and Dan Lantis, treasurer, with Mr. Rohnke as our class sponsor. Climbing the ladder of importance we soon found ourselves juniors and upperclassmen at that! With the new school year came Mary Jean Ginther, Betty Strauser. and Gary Rapier. Officers for year were Charlene Gelsinger, president; Ed Driekosen, vice president; Claudia Wildin, secretary; Diana Welch, treasurer; and Mr. Dietsche, class sponsor. We received our class rings in November. Our big event for the year was our prom, ‘ Northern Lights , which will be long remembered by the beautiful decorations in shades of blue and the several cases of toilet paper used in our igloo! Another important event was the selection of delegates to Montana Boy's State and Girl's State. The delegates to Boy's State were Terry Nett and Norman Grosfield with Reece Bums and Dan Lantis as alternates. Charlene Gelsinger attended Girl's States as the delegate and Robin Walsh was her alternate. Finally reaching the top of the ladder we found ourselves the Almighty Seniors . Norman Grosfield, president; Terry Nett, vice president; Claudia Wildin, secretary; Mary Jean Ginther, treasurer and Mr. Wilson the sponsor, were those elected class officers. New members in the class were Mona Williams, Walter Sherle, Shirley Rantru, and Judy Gwynn. Those elected to the 1964 annual staff were Norman Grosfield and Terry Nett, co-editors; Charlene Gelsinger, business manager; Reece Burns, sports editor; Dan Lantis. art editor; and Diana Welch and Claudia Wildin, snapshot editor and calendar. This years staff considers themselves quite smart to be the first class to have gold covers! During the year our class decreased somewhat, losing Walter Sherle, Shirley Rantru, Betty Strausser, Terry Routzahn, Jodie Cozzie and Frank Martin. Among the many important activities were the Christmas Ball, ordering the announce- ments, senior portraits taken, crowning of Prom King Queen, Reece Bums and Charlene Gelsinger, with Diana Welch and Ed Dreikosen as princess and prince, and the senior play The Mouse That Roared . The last week of school proved to be a busy and exciting one. Friday, May 15, our Sneak Day, our class visited the Lewis Clark Caverns, Frontier Town, Butte and several places in Helena; Monday, May 18 seniors, their parents and teachers enjoyed the senior banquet at the 7-Up Ranch in Lincoln. Baccalaureate was held on May 17 and Graduation May 20, thus ending four tremendous years of high school for this class of 1964! 17 JUNIORS ■JF7 “ Bht-rc- today the I Aw lr North GatJi Kvcls.
