CLASS HISTORY In the year of ifineteen-hundred and fifty nine, twenty-three painted freshmen walked through the doors of Augusta High School to begin their four years of high school education. Class officers for the first year were Dave Adamson, president; Dale Converse, vice presi- dent; Joanne Shortridge, secretary; and Florence Hitchcock, treasurer. Our class sponsor was Miss Koester. During the year we gained Dave Brady and lost Mike Smith and Mary Whaley. Later we lost Dave Brady. Our Sophomore year we had 13 students in oui class. The class officers that year were Gus Wolfe, president; Roger Benson, vice president; Diane Arps, secretary; and Charlotte Hall, treasurer. Class sponsor was Mr. Rohnke. During the year we lost Dave Adamson, Jack Sangray, Rick Tumbow, and Grace McCurdie. When we finally became juniors we were getting pretty important being second high over the high school. We gained Virginia Lee and Anita Burgess and lost Shirley Lantis, and Jim Hubbard. The class officers of our junior year were Carol Kimble, president; Charlotte Hall, vice president; Diane Arps, secretary; and Dale Converse, treasurer. Our class sponsor was Mr. Nelson. The same year our class erected a prom that will long be remembered. Sayonora was the theme of this big success. During our junior year many of the junior boys were proud to be part of the football team when the Augusta Elks,1' not losing one game, won the Northern Divisional Title. As seniors this year we have finally taken the last but highest position in high school. We elected outstanding officers this year to lead our class. President, Gus Wolfe; vice president, Jim Schaffer; secretary, Jerry Bender; and treasurer, Roger Benson, were those elected by the class for the senior year. This year Jim Schaffer, left our midst and moved to Wyoming. Tom Kennedy left the class to join the Navy and we gained Dave Adamson. Hillbilly Weddin was the name of the superb comedy play presented by the senior class, under the direction of Mrs. Baumann. Seniors will long remember their sneak day. The swimming, hiking, and touring the campus and brewery in Missoula were all part of the activities we enjoyed. Although basketball and football season weren't too rewarding this year the track team was. We placed third in the District Meet and second in the Divisional Meet. The senior class was proud to be represented during the State Track Meet. The senior banquet was held in Lincoln, at the 7-Up Ranch. After the banquet we enjoyed dancing with parents and fellow classmates. Baccalaureate was held Sunday, May 19, and Commencement, May 20, thus ending four glorious years of high school for the Class of 1963. 15
