Dance Bandit Band History, Our band was organized in February 1952 under the direction of Mr. George Merillo. We had band rehearsals every week which continued throughout the summer. Our first public performance was a concert given at the close of the summer. We were invited to play at the Fall Festival at Marthasville. We accepted this invitation. We began the 1952-53 school term under the direction of Mr. Troly Pennington. We elected officers as follows: President ....... .... Lavon Fischer Band Managers . . , , Earl Mallinckrodt Dennis Engelage We gave a Bake Sale, January 10, to make money to buy music. We organized a Dance Band. This band has thirteen members. Mr. Pennington also introduced the merit system. Our present director, Mr. Dolan, came in January 1953. Cn February 14, 1953 we played at the dedication of the new auditorium. Because Mr. Dolan was unable to be present, we played under the direction of Miss Alita Schaaf. Our band, at the present time, has twenty-eight members.
