A SIMULATED SPACE FLIGHT On Friday, May 5, 1967, three freshmen boys, Paul Grindstaff, Jerry Burt and Dick Brewer, entered their homemade space rocket on the school lawn. They spent the week-end in the capsule going through the test and experiences of the real astronauts, except flying in space. Their spacecraft never left the ground. During the flight a ground crew consisting of Leo Brown, Lynn Parrish, Bud Dobbelaere, and Roger Sahf- fer kept a record of each thing the astronauts did. Their blood pressure and pulse were taken every forty- five minutes. Their diet consisted of baby food, Hi-C drinks and metrecal. On Sunday, May 8, they " splashed-down " with a big crowd present to greet them. This project was headed by Mr. Tom Gaus, their general science teacher. During the week of April 24 the class sponsored a " work week " by doing different jobs in the community. The astronauts and advisor after " splash- down " .
