xx. mm--h I - As administrator, Mr. Elmer D. June is kept occupied with paperwork. Mr. James E. Held checks out one of his well-organized lists. PRINCIPAL ELMER D. JUNE, M.A. Columbia University High School Principal PPINCIPAIJS MESSAGE Commencement is the ending of one phase of your education and the beginning of another. For many this second phase will require long hours of study and for others major adjustments to new routines and new people. At times some will be- come discouraged and wonder if the effort will prove profitable. Preparing for a profession or preparing for anything worthwhile is a long pull, and almost any of us might be tempted to quit before we finish. Anyone who reaches competence, not to mention eminence, has made considerable sacrifice along the way. The satisfactions gained from reaching one's goal usually outweigh other factors. You will, one day, be grateful you did not give up. lVly best wishes to the Class of 1969. Elmer D. June ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL JAMES E. HELD, B.S. Rider College Assistant Principal The longer a person lives the more he realizes that real inward happiness and contentment are not achieved merely by acquiring material posses- sions. True happiness is acquired by giving, not getting-giving of one's self. In your education you have received the gifts of centuries-treasures from the great authors, the gifts of nature, the wonders of science, moral pre- cepts from clergy, parents and teachers. Daily we take and receive from those around us. Now, as you are about to take your place in the world, may you be inspired to pass these gifts on. The successes you attain will be more meaningful and enjoyable as you give of yourself. James E. l-leld
