Though appearing singularly conservative over a period of time, AHS has been affected in a subtle manner by the swift progress made in the Delaware Valley. Our student body has become more avvareg involvement is the current issue. The atmosphere is no longer placidg an anti-apathy campaign is in its beginnings. Team effort is novv the ruleg group participation is going into effect. Championship teams are Audubon's pride. The Student Council discusses liberal policies with the administration. lm- provements on existing buildings are evi- dent. The dimensions of the school are to be extended by a new library and class- room area. Students vvill be offered more variety in curriculum selection. World peace and human dignity are still para- mount goals for mankind. With the rate ot new knowledge increasing, we find ourselves with more questions than there are answers. JUNE, M.A. Columbia University High School Principal PPINCIPAIJS MESSAGE Commencement is the ending of one phase of your education and the beginning of another. For many this second phase will require long hours of study and for others major adjustments to new routines and new people. At times some will be- come discouraged and wonder if the effort will prove profitable. Preparing for a profession or preparing for anything worthwhile is a long pull, and almost any of us might be tempted to quit before we finish. Anyone who reaches competence, not to mention eminence, has made considerable sacrifice along the way. The satisfactions gained from reaching one's goal usually outweigh other factors. You will, one day, be grateful you did not give up. lVly best wishes to the Class of 1969. Elmer D. June ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL JAMES E. HELD, B.S. Rider College Assistant Principal The longer a person lives the more he realizes that real inward happiness and contentment are not achieved merely by acquiring material posses- sions. True happiness is acquired by giving, not getting-giving of one's self. In your education you have received the gifts of centuries-treasures from the great authors, the gifts of nature, the wonders of science, moral pre- cepts from clergy, parents and teachers. Daily we take and receive from those around us. Now, as you are about to take your place in the world, may you be inspired to pass these gifts on. The successes you attain will be more meaningful and enjoyable as you give of yourself. ROBESPIERRE The time approaches for the Class of 1969 to fulfill the goal for which it has been working these four years. Members are happy to have reached another important step in life, but there is a shade of sadness at the thought of leaving scenes and friends we have come to know. Now that it is time to move on and take our place in society, we can look back with appreciation for the help and guidance the class has received from the faculty and administration. Any success we as individuals might meet, will be due, in part, to the many experiences enjoyed in Audubon High School. On behalf of all our class officers, l would like sincerely to thank the Class of 1969 for the honor and pleasure of serving them. ' -9,95 S- -- D X so 5 N 1 JOHN HAROLD HAGBORG July 7, 1951 - August 23, 1966 From the fleeting ray that was John's interlude here, a bright and treasured prism of memories remains for the close friends of his boyhood and the admiring associates of his young manhood. John, it is recalled, faced the adventure of life with keen wit and quick intel- ligence tingling with appreciative awareness of a fascinating natural environ- ment. Always feeling warm sympathy for the anxieties ot others, he had a spiritual insight that strengthened him with an optimism that transcended the limits of fear. We, his classmates, cherish a vision of John as we read these few verses of Walt Whitman: Alone tar in the wilds and mountains l hunt, Wandering amazed at my own lightness and glee, ln the late afternoon choosing a sate spot to pass the night, Kindling a fire and broiling the tresh-kill'd game, Falling asleep on the gather'd leaves with my dog and gun by my side. from SONG OF MYSELF Audubon's candidate for Junior Miss, JoAnne Maloney, is pictured at ease. life at the top l S E E sf K s 2 5. 4 J What's the matter Frank, can't you read?
