-f4U'l- The eighteen-month long year which began July 1, 1957,,and runs through December 31, 1958, is called ICY, meaning the International Geophysical Year . During this period, thousands of adults and youth are forming teams to trace the path of man-made satellites. Some scientists say the satellites will be ball-shaped objects shot into outer spaceg it is pre- dicted they will carry instruments to record wind speeds, temperatures, meteors, cosmic rays, and so forth. In addition to observing satellites in flight, scientists hope to determine accurately the shape and size of the earth, and the density of air in outer space.
