BETTY BAIRD DORIS KEES EditorfinfChief Chief Business Manager Probably the proudest group of high school students ever seen was ours when we gathered together for the Hrst meeting of the 1941 yearbook staff. Our first work was to interview photographers fquite interesting, may we assure you?j. Then came the printers and engravers with rnyriads of layouts and Hgures that rattled like hail in our confused heads. When we finally chose the ones offering the most and best for the least, we were ready to select the theme. From what we've heard, it has always been a difficult task to select a theme for the yearbook. This time, too, we expected to have a few mental tusslesg but to our surprise and delight, we discovered the Audubon Charter Chapter of the National Honor Society quietly presenting itself for our instant approval, Thus the theme of Le Souvenir of 1941 came into existence. With the theme chosen, assignments were handed out and the various departments began their work. The photographer came and took portraits, group pictures, and candid camera shots. The business staff worked chiefly to earn money to keep the cost of the yearbook as low as possible for each senior. Members of the staif sold adverf tising space by contacting local and outfofftown businessmen. They also took charge of the sales campaign for underclass and alumni subscriptions, In conjunction with the editorial and business staffs, the art staif created the page illustrating in symbolical form the main events of our senior year and the cartoons in the advertising section of the book. With the main portion of our work completed, we chose the cover of the yearbook and had the name of each senior student printed on his own book in gold letters, Looking back on our work this year, we feel that we have done our best toward preparing for our schoolmates the type of yearbook they have been eagerly awaiting. 1 6
