May it hrihg lasting memories of the happiest days of your youth! A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF EDUCATIGN CGHE EDUCATION you are now Hnishing is just the foundaf tion for the structure you are about to build in the iield of business and higher education. The Board of Education has done its best to provide the necessary material for a firm foundation. You, the individual, have been the builderg if you have used the material to the best advantage, there is no doubt that your structure is a Hrm one. It is now your civic duty to continue your interest in educaf tional affairs so that future graduates may receive in even greater measure the fruits of education when they arrive at the point you have reached today. ANDREW F. GANSER, President DEDICATION C60 MR. GEORGE H. IAGGARD, in appreciation of his untiring effort on our behalf, we, the Class of 1937, affectionately dedicate this book. FLIGHT CFFICERS EHE CLASS of 1937 sincerely thanks its advisers, Miss Dorn' bach, Mrs. Schuler, Mrs. Lance, Mr. Keyburtz, and Mr. Neel, for their generous help and guidance. Zyl HThose having torches will pass them on to others -PLATO l DR. WILLIAM L. FIDLER Supervising Principal l I my The Supervising Principal's Message WE ARE HUMAN beings and act much the same in the presence of that which tends to lull us to sleep or which threatens our security. Methods which foster unreasoned subservience weaken an organization, for they strike at the very source of its strength -the wide awake, thoughtful, self-appraising attitude on the part of the individual members. The highest ideals of search, forbidding any mere selfish quest, demand that all attainable values, particularly those of other personalities, be taken as best possible into account. It is only thus that adequacy, whether of appreciation or of choice, can justly be sought. It is only thus that democracy is truly served. WILLIAM L. FIDLER, B.S. in Ed., Ed. M., Ed.D. 'LThe heart to conceive, the uriderstaridirig to direct, the hand to execute. -JUNIUS. Miss GRACE N. KRAEMER The Principal's Message AN EDUCATED MAN masters things-ways of doing his share of the work that the world needs to have done: but ever he remains the master. It is the study of man himself-of human nature, human motives, human emotions-which engages the attention of him who wishes to he received into the society of educated men. And education, like charity, begins at home. Every young person ought to be stimulated to analyze himself-his aptitudes, his limitations, his reactions to people and to situations. He ought to understand, further, that in his ability to adjust him- self to others, lies the hope of his success or the certainty of his failure. Only as he fashions his desires and his will into an earnest desire to move in harmony with the laws of men and their ways, as well as things and their forces, can he hope to live a useful life and service his day and generation. CLIPPERH FLIGHT ONE Date, 193364 Flying ForecastfCEIL1NG ZERO We entered the school as the ground crew. Under our able instructors. Miss Ayres. Mass Baker. Mr. Carl, Mrs. Leonard. Mr, Neel. Mr. Plcken and Miss Warlow. we charted our course and learned how to follow it. Our crew was swelled by numerous members from Runnemede and Mt. Ephraim. The fullffledged junior and senior pilots paid little attention to us except when we could give fuel to their planes by supporting their activities. This we did willingly and looked forward to the time for our SECOND FLIGHT Date, 193485 - Flying ForecastfCALM We were ready to learn the controls of our ship and perhaps fly it a little with Miss Chees- man, Mr. Lambert. Mr. Messenger. Mr. Neel. Mr. Picken. Mr. Troutman. and Miss Wzimsley' guiding us. True. the ship was a small open cockpit type but we diligently paid a dime each week so that we could purchase a really good one and make the record flight. for which we were even then planningfAudubon to Vilashington. Our crew chose its leaders: Samuel Sproul. president: LeRoy Purvis, vice president: Mary McManus. secretary: and Louis Iaeck. treasurer. W'e tried our wings for the first hop of our career in March. which was the time for our sophomore party. Although the music ampliher broke. it was not a major disaster: for some of our more inventive crew remedied it by running their nimble nngers over the keyfboard of the plane's piano. After this successful hop and a three months' vacation to rest up. we anticipated with joy the take' off of our THIRD FLIGHT Date, 193566 Flying Forecast-FAvoRAB1.E Amateur pilots. sitting in the cockpit of our monoplane. we worked the controls ourselves under the supervision of Mrs. Anderson, Mr. jaggard, Mr. Lance, Miss Thorpe, Mr. Troutman, Miss Wamsley. and Mrs. Weeks. We took off in September and made a perfect threefpoint landing in june. This was a most exciting and eventful flight. We chose as our officers: Samuel Sproul, president: Mary McManus. vice president: Clifford Mannella. secretary: and LeRoy Purvis. treasurer. Our Hrst junior dance was a great success. The gymnasium was decorated in the Hallowe'en spirit with corn shocks and pumpkin heads. Our next success was the junior play, A Murder Has Been Arranged. startlingly different and unique. It brought many pieces of valuable green paper into our treasury. Vsle fell into an airpockct with our second junior dance. but recovered with a loss of only two dollars. Diligentlv, we strove to make the juniorfSenior Prom a success. As the amateur pilots, most of the work fell on us: but we enjoyed it all and were well rewarded to see the gymnasium transformed into an oriental setting. Many of our crew were making their mark in scholastic achievement and the held of sports. We took a leave of absence for the summer before taking off on our record-breaking FOURTH FLIGHT Date, 193687 Flying Forecast-SKY'S THE LIMIT We returned to the airport for the last year saddened by the loss of one of our crew. Under the supervision of Miss Dornbach. Mr. Keyhurtz. Mrs. Lance. Mr. Neel. and Mrs. Schuler, we chose Samuel Sproul. president: Mary McManus. vice president: Clifford Mannella. secretary: and LeRoy Purvis. treasurer. The rest of us made reservations on the gigantic A. H. S. Clipper with only a few. who had to make forced landings. left behind. The Victory Dance feven though the Heights claimed the victory on the fieldj was more successful than any held before. Tons of Ivioneyn--that was our sidefsplitting senior play! The ttle was a prophecy. because tons of money literally rolled into our treasury. Hearts. hearts. hearts-the gym was one huge valenf tine! With such a setting. how could our Valentine Dance be anvthing but successful? With the throttle wide open. we flew uhigh. wide. and handsome to Washington. What a flight! But all too short! And now-we are about to take off on the biggest flight of our career. We are leav' ing the airport which has sheltered us for four years4each in his own little plane. each bound for a different destination. Perhaps. our paths may cross. who knows? Now. with a twist of the propeller. the whine of the motor. we glide down the runway. Happy landing-happy landin . . . ! g Flight Recorder: DOLORES KATZ ll X f, ,. X i g fi I Yvy.
