E Mei niversity Begins Computer Registration Spring Quarter brought a new approach to university registration-the IBM 7040-1401 computer system. This system alleviated many problems encountered with the manual registration previously used. Various plans from other colleges and universities were discussed and revised until a system suitable to Auburn's policies and procedures was found. This system of registration proved to have a number of advantages. The amount of time required for a stu- dent to register was substantially reduced. Fewer mem- bers of the faculty were required to assist in the process. Computers also allowed department heads to examine students' course requests before final schedules were fixed. Computer registration, combined with the system of controlled admissions, served as valuable tools in meeting the needs of a rapidly growing university. 15 N
