The illusion of the Army ROIC at tin Alabama Poly technic Institute is to train officers for the Regular rmy and the rmy Reserve, and to have ready in time of national emergency a corps of educated, well prepared leaders for our Armies. The program is conducted in two phases: a basic course which is required for all able-bodied males, non-veteran students: and an advanced course which the qualified students may enter voluntarily after successfully completing the basic course. Iii the basic course the fundamentals of tactics, weapons, ami equipment of the various branches of the army are taught. Also, it is here that potential leadership qualities in officer candidates are developed. In the advance course, cadets specialized in one of four different branches of the Army-Field Artillery. Armor. Corps of Kngineers. or Signal Corps. The advanced cadet receives a regular monthly monetary allowance. In addition to the hours spent in the classroom and on the drill field, advanced cadets attend a six weeks summer training camp, usually between their junior and senior years. Here, through bivouacs. map problems, and the ojieration of the latest weapons ami equipment, cadets apply the theory learned in the classroom. Upon successful completion of the advanced course and summer camp, cadets receive commissions as 2nd lieutenants in the Officers Reserve Corps. rrny ItOTC Stall

Navy R. O. T. C. 'Pile .Naval KOTO unit at Auburn is one of 52 su(;li units located at elected colleges and universities throughout the I nite l Stales. The NROTC program lias a dual mission. I he contract program turns out trained reservists who. after two years of active service, will take their place in the pool of Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Officers who will augment the hard core of career officers in these services. All Midshipment participate in summer cruises which may take them west to Corpus C’.hristi. each to Balencia. Spain: north to Quebec, or as far south as Rio. The program oilers extensive diversification for Midshipmen upon commissioning. Some w ill serve under the sea as submariners, some in the surface fleet as line officers, some in the air as Naval and Marine Corps aviators, and some on land in shore establishments and the fleet Marine force. By a process of careful selection the Navy insures that the men of the NROTC unit are well |ualificd to assume their dual role as future Naval Officers and Auburn men. CoMMAMlKK W. C. Jo.VSON, J|{.
