Page 26 text: “Mr. James E. Foy, Director of Student Affairs, keeps close contact with the student body through many varied activities. These activities enrich the life on the campus and prcv’de opportunities for the participation of many students. His interest, personality. and capable work have endeared him to the student body. He also serves as the advisor for Omicron Delta Kappa. Squires, and Phi Eta Sigma honoraries. Mr. Foy is the national secretary of Phi Eta Sigma. M ss Katharine Cooper Cater. Dean of Women and Sociai Director, has found her responsibilities greatly increased in the past few years. The increased enrollment of women and the completion of tho new girls’ dormitories necessitated steps to coordinate each into the college program. The Dean of Women and her staff endeavor to provide a good personnel program for the areas of housing, counselling, and social activities. Miss Cater was recently honored by her alma mater. Limestone College, as the Outstanding Alumna of the year. Director of Athletics since 1951. Mr. G. W. Beard has watched a steady surge of improvement in Auburn's athletic teams. He heads a wel trained staff coordinated to offer a good athletic program in intercollegiate athletics and physical ecu-cation. Coach Beard also serves as an advisor for the Interfraternity Council. Mr. Clyde Hull Cartrell is the Director of Libraries. Undor his leadership the main library and six branch libraries on the campus offer many opportunities and services JAMES E. There are approximately 190.000 volumes in the library. The latest addition is the new browsing collection. Mr. L. O. Brackeen. Director of Publicity, and his capable staff coordinate the public information program of all the divisions and deoartments of Alabama Polytechnic Institute. Mr. Brockeen is very active in both state and national organizations pertaining to his work here at Auburn. Director of Buildings and Grouncs. Mr. Sam Brewster, and his department administer. design, construct, maintain and operate the entire physical plant. The completion of the women's new cafeteria and the Student Union Building marks the completion of the building program wh'ch began in 1946. Mr. Brewster was recently honored to serve as the president of the National Association of Physical Plant Administrators of Colleges and Universites. Dr. Morgen W. Brown is the Medical Director. Medical service which is given to the student has been greatly improved with the inauguration of a student sanitation program and a tubercular x-ray service. Through these administrative departments ond the ten schools which comprise A a-bnma Polytechnic Institute many services are rendered to the people of Alabama and the entire South. These services and the educational training Auburn gives to its students leads to the ultimate goal of a greater Auburn. 22 ”

Page 25 text: “The scere on the Plains is a panorama of growth and development. Each year finds new strength in cvory phaso of the Alabama Pclytochnlc Institute. The core of the Institution is a relatively small body of twelve men who comprise the Board of Trustees. About this core, however, revo ves a vast network of instruction, research. extension, various administrative personnel, activities of faculty, and students. Dr. David W. Mullins. Executive Vice-President, is President Draughon's chief assistant. D'. Mullins is the ranking administrative officer for a I divisions of the Institution and relieves the President of many of the details of his adm nistrative duties. He se'ves as chairman of the special state-wide committee for the preparation and distribution of a bulletin on the status of higher education in Alabama, entitled Look at Our Colleges. The Dear of Faculties. Dr. Michel C. Hunt ey. directs the bronch that is devotee to instruction. It serves as a connecting link correlating the programs of the ten schools on the camous. Dr. Hunt-ley was honored to serve as Secretary of the Commission on Co leges and Universities, as a unit of the Southern Association o ' Colleges and Secondary Schools. Dean E. V. Smith. Dean of the School of Agr’culture. is the Director of Auburn’s Agriculture Experiment Station. The obect of this branch is to experiment wl+h and develop al phases of agri-cu ture. enabling the farmer to produce crops with increased efficiency. Mr. Davis, as first president of the Southeastern Resources Development Association, has taken a eading part in the development of rivers, use of wator for pow©r. navigation, flooo control, industry and agricultu-e in A abama. Behind the scenes can be found the administrative branches that increase the smooth operation of the institution. Mr. Charles V . Edwards. Registrar, heads the branch which controls the admissions, records, and registration. Serving in this capacity since 1938. Mr. Edwards has seen many changes in the number of studonts on the Plains. Tho Fall Quarter of 1953 had an enrollment of 6.750 students on the campus. Mr. William Travis Ingram. Business Manager, directs this department with the efficiency and capability required in all financial endeavors. Mr. Ingram is the past president of the Southern Association of College and University Business Offices and is still active in the organization. The Executive Secretary of the Alumni Association. Mr. Joe Server, has proven his abil ty in personal contact work. As an Auburn graduate, his devotion to Auburn has been shown through his interest and capable work.
