PRESIDEHT OF fl. P. I Knowledge is one of the primary requisites for leadership. Dr. Ralph B. Draughon has an understanding of A. P. I. from the level of a freshman to the most respected position of President. He enrolled at Auburn in 1918 as a lowly freshman. Since that time he has served A. P. I. as an assistant professor of history and political science, Executive Secretary, and was Secretary to the Board of Trustees until 1947. Following the death of Dr. Luther N. Duncan, he served as director of instruction and acting president from August, 1947, to October 1948. In 1948 Dr. Draughon was installed as President of the Alabama Polytechnic Institute. Many serious problems have presented themselves to Auburn's chief executive, and he has solved each in a very capa ble manner. Dr. Draughon's primary object has been the balanced growth and improvement in all the varied fields of activity at Auburn. The policy of the administration has done much to build vertically the strong courses now offered. In aodition to his administrative duties Dr. Draughon is in demand as a guest speaker and is requested to fill many other social obligations. He is never too busy to confer with any student on o problem and always has their intorost at heart. His knowledge of A. P. I. has enabled him to give equal consideration to all branches and departments and provide the leadership necessary for the betterment of Auburn. 18
