However, many other products would have little value except through chemistry. Auburnis chemists and chemical engineers are trained to become useful citizens with specialized training for rendering professional service and developing our resources. The School of Chemistry offers courses leading to degrees in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Laboratory Technology, and offers many service courses for the other schools of the campus. The chemistry majors are prepared to do laboratory worlc and research in the field of chemistry, while chemical engineers are trained chiefly for process development and production. Laboratory technology gives preparation for technicians for food and nutrition laboratories and prepares one for hospital training leading to a degree in Medical Technology. An active research program is maintained and doing its part in contributing to the fundamental research which is primarily the province of colleges and universities. The School of Chemistry is housed in the Ross Chemical Laboratory and in the Wilmore Engineering Laboratory. The Emerson R. Miller library, located in Ross, and the chemical engineering library in Wilmore have very line collections of boolcs and periodicals. Both buildings contain fully equipped and modern laboratories. Dr. Charles Richard Saunders is the dean of chemistry. Dr. Saunders received his B.S. and M.S. degrees at Auburn and his Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska. He joined Auburn's staff in 1932. Alabama resources, such as iron ore, and products, such as cotton seed oil, would have little value except through chemistry. Auburn's chemists are trained to become useful citi- zens with specialized training for rendering professional service and developing our resources. The School of Chemistry oifers opportunities to participate in or be recognized by sev- eral professional and honorary organizations: Phi Lambda Upsilon, an honorary organiza- tion for outstanding students in chemistry, and The American Chemical Society, a technical organization for students majoring in chemistry. 27 Heat it TOM SCOTT President JANE FRENCH Vicr-Pruidcnt
