llillll lllllll Keeper of the Bees Leading the South in Poultry Research I thought it came from cows PEYTON BURFORD President As the population of this Country increases in numbers and shifts from one that is predominantly rural to one that is largely urban, the need for trained leaders in the various fields of Agriculture is intensified. The School of Agriculture is meeting the challenge by training students for leadership. Degrees are offered in Agricultural Science, Agricultural Administration, Agricultural Engineering, Fish and Game Management, Forestry, and Ornamental Horticulture. Opportunity is alforded for majoring in such specialized fields as Animal Husbandry and Dairy Manufacturing. Agricultural Science provides broad training in the general field of Agriculture. Graduates are well fitted to engage in scientific farming or to become professional agricul- tural worlcers in the Extension Service, Soil Conservation Service, and similar organizations serving farm people. Agricultural Administration combines training in business and agriculture. Graduates operate farm businesses or work with banks, cooperatives, and various commercial and industrial organizations whose customers are farmers. Agricultural Engineering is a professional curriculum. Auburn graduates are sought by the farm machinery industry. The Forestry curriculum is fully accredited by the Society of American Foresters. Although a young curriculum, forestry graduates are assuming positions of leadership in public forest management and private forest industry. Auburn is the only school in the Southeast having a Cooperative Wildlife Unit, the institution has a world-wide reputation in fisheries biology. Consequently, graduates in Fish and Game Management find professional employment with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the Stare Departments of Conservation. Ornamental Horticulture provides training in floriculture and in nursery and greenhouse management. The growing urban population is providing an increasing market for flowers and shrubs, and thereby greater opportunities for Ornamental Horticulture graduates. 23 ALBERT COMPTON Vice-President
