Following fhe deafh of Dr. Duncan he served as di- recfor of insfrucfion and acfing presidenf befween fhe dafes of Augusl I947 and Ocfober I948, In Ocfober i948 fhe success sfory was complefed when Dr. Draughon was insfalled as Presidenl of fhe Alabama Polyfechnic lnsfifufe. During his period of service as Auburn's chief execu- five, Dr, Draughon has been faced wifh many grave problems. The Korean War fhreafened fo seriously reduce The enrollmenf of The insfifufion. Shorfages of building ma- ferials provided headaches for fhe building program. Rising prices reduced fhe real income of faculfy mem- bers. Auburn had fo weafher fhe sform of an ugly foof- ball siluafion. Dr. Draughon has faced fhese and ofher problems wifh sincerify and honesfy. Solufions have been and are con- finuing fo be provided in a capable manner. Dr. Draughon's maior obiecfive has been fhe balanced growfh and developmenf of all phases of fhe Alabama Polyfechnic lnsfifufe. All branches and cleparfmenfs have been given equal considerafion and none have been freafed wifh favorifism. The resulfs of Dr. Draughon's building program can be seen in ferms of new sfrucfures on all parfs of fhe campus. Truly Dr. Draughon, in a quief and efficienf manner, is providing fhe leadership for a Greafer Auburn.
